So i did a search and came up empty, so here it is. A good friend of mine has a Colt 1911, model 01991, series 80. He wants to replace the stock sights with some night sights. Now it looks like the rear sights are sitting in a dovetail, but the front sights we cant figure out. Anybody have any experience putting new sights on a 1911 like this? Ill snap some pictures of it and post them tonight. Thanks in advance.

Your Google-Fu sucks then. Although if you tried only searching on CGN then I agree that their search defaults are badly chosen. I googled for "1911 front sight replacement" and this Brownells video on You Tube came up as the third option. Key words, it's all about picking the proper key words.

With the staked in sights you can see that it requires some specialty tools to punch out the old sight, peen over the tenon of the new sight and some attention to grinding down the tenon stub so that you don't remove too much metal but so that the bushing fits neatly. If in doubt get a gunsmith to do the job rather than risk damage to the slide.

Thanks friend. What can I say, I'm no fan of electronic technology, and neither is it a fan of me. I guess I try to be to specific at most times

does anybody know of a good canadian retailer for 1911 night sights??

I see plenty on brownells but I'm specifically looking for Novak sights, and they wont ship them to canada apparently

I like Heinie, Ed Brown or Wilson night sights for Novak sight cuts - from Brownells. You will not find aftermarket Novaks brand sights in Canada - they do not have an export permit.
