Upgrading a Relatively Cheap AR15

is it worth upgrading my DPMS with some better components, I was thinking a BCM BCG, barrel and a nice BCM hand guard and perhaps a BCM lower parts kit
No. There is nothing wrong with what you have.

A mediocre receiver set can make a very nice rifle.
Yes. The receiver is kind of the least important part of the AR rifle. As long as it holds the parts in the correct configuration, it will be fine.

Just looking to have a reasonable quality AR that will last, not concerned about high precision shooting with it. If it’s near the quality of what a BCM rifle would have been I’ll be happy and like you hope to get to shoot it legally in the near future.
You already have that.

A decent trigger is the only worthwhile update. MIL triggers kinda suck.

Way too much emphasis has been placed on “tiers” for manufacturers. Ther is nothing wrong with what you have and it would a waste to “upgrade” to BCM. BCM is nice, but they essentially use “mil-spec” components with an emphasis on quality control.

The barrel of you DPMS may not meet “mil-spec” but it’s doubtful that you’ll ever notice the difference if you swap it out for another run of the mill government profile barrel. Unless it’s an HBAR I’d leave it as is.

Ditch the NEA just on principle, too many QC issues.

Receivers hold the important parts and as long as they are in spec can interchange parts and upgrade whatever you desire.

Norinco or NEA receivers also really only hold the other parts and can be totally adequate however interchanging parts can be problematic

The only Norinco receiver that’s really problematic is the original 20” 311 with the strange handguard and pistol grip. They used metric threads so receiver extensions and pistol grip screws aren’t interchangeable.

I guess that is not really a problem if the original screw is reused. I never owned one but have seen totally capable rifles built out of them

Do not intend to steal a tread but buying part for finishing AR build( I got lower sitting in a safe)will be to optimistic?better wait for election?

I have an NEA lower as my test gun and it has put up with more abuse than any AR should have to endure and it has just kept on working.

That looks/sounds like a pretty decent AR already - you want to see a cheap POS you should see mine :(
LOL, my test gun is a complete bitsa rifle built from generic parts I had lying around at the time.

Mehhh~ I had an NEA. The Norinco..is much better. I saw the
Torture' test {utube} on Norinco. Isn't it, many {Philippines} etc. Police/Military -use Norinco AR platforms?

Glad it worked out for you. They were still a garbage company that released trash.

Philippines has been making their own ARs for decades. I believe Elisco Tool produced AR-15s under license from Colt. They also purchased the old Armalite company in the 80s.

If you have a lower and upper, you are good to go. The upper and lower receivers are prohib and you can't legally buy either of them.
