Hey, I am looking for a nice light (6-7lb) SxS 20 gauge that I can use for pheasent, squirrels, rabbits and grouse. I want 26" barrels with sqrew in choke tubes.

I have around $700 to spend MAX weither it is new or used depends on the gun. What type of gun can I get brand new for $700? What could I expect to see on the used market for around $700?

Can I avoid guns like "Stoeger" or "Baikal" for this type of money? I would like to get a higher quality gun in the next bracket up from them.

The inertia of the mechanism resisting the recoil of the first shot usually cocks the second barrel. Problem is you can't choose which barrel to fire.

I think the CZ bobwhite is the one you need with the 26" 20 gauge config. I also love that straight grip.

I just bought a 20 gauge Stoeger Uplander off the EE it's got screw-in chokes and 24" barrels and a straight grip. It's a double trigger one.

It hasn't got here yet but when it does I'll get some pics and a review up.

Some, I mean all of those Stoegers handle like hammers. Better to spend a couple extra bucks and buy a decent used gun off the EE.

A number of years back I picked up a 20ga. Ruger Red Label to use as my 'rainy day' Grouse gun. Decent quality, light and fast. On sunny days:D;) I use an English 12ga SxS, straight stock and side locks.
 
If you want a nice light gun in either a O/U or SxS then the first rule is to buy the one that fits you best. Fit is a great varible in shotguns and one that comes to the shoulder fast and hits where you are looking, Remeber, you point a shotgun -- you don't aim it.
That being said you should contact Clay at SakoAlberta and talk to him about Yildiz -- Under 6lbs on O/U and 5 1/3lbs in SxS.

CZ Bobwhite

I do actually like the looks of the CZ Bobwhite alot but it is $839 + Tax.

That is along the lines of what I am looking for in a good upland gun. I dont really like the looks of silver on any shotgun receiver so it would have to be blued or case hardened for me. I know now that I want double triggers, that just looks to be the easiest way to select what choke you want.

I dont mind looking at maybe a older used SxS as long as it is in really good shape. What are some older models that would fall into my price range that are known for quality and reliability?

Its unlikely you will find one with screw in choke tubes. What for anyway? IC/mod plus some load development will cover off any situation for the kind of hunting you describe.

Good to know, I'll keep my eye peeled for a inertia cocked double trigger.

But doesn't that mean that in order to choose which barrel to fire first both internal mechanisms have to be cocked at the same time?

I used to have Bufalo 12gg sxs double trigger but it was not a inertia cockcked gun.

You select the barrel by selecting the trigger.

The best have DOUBLE triggers - IMHO :D

Then I can select which barrel to fire milliseconds after the target presents itself. I was doing some shooting on the skeet range with a double trigger SxS and I had no trouble adapting.

I'm with you IC/Mod is the way to go.
the only reason I can think of having full choke is for predator control (coyote)

It's too bad that a lot of the older guns are choked full/full or mod/full. Makes them a lot harder to hit with.

They are, it is the trigger that is reset inertially.

Sure, but I can use the selector on my gun just as quickly. YMMV
