Upland game vest - suggestions?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on doing a South Dakota Pheasant hunt this fall, and I'm in the market for a good upland game vest.

Is there one brand that is considered the 'best'? I'm looking to spend about $100, so the CT bright orange ain't gonna cut it.

Anyone have some feedback on what they use? It must have SOME blaze orange on it, but don't like full orange.

Any suggestions (as well a places to buy them!) would be greatly appreciated.
 
Filson makes great stuff. If I didn't already have a vest from Orvis I'd get a Filson. It's a little more than $100CDN but worth the extra few bucks. Cabelas has a good selection too.

The two main points in an upland that I look for. First is no farging Velcro. I ditched an old vest that used velcro pocket closures. They were a giant pain in the ass. Buttons, snaps or zippers are preferable. The second is a game pocket that is large enough to access easily. My one complaint about the Orvis vest is the game pocket isn't easily accessible.

I like a lighter weight vest that is a size larger. It can be 25 degress or 0C in upland season and a lighter, roomier vest allows you to put on additional layers when it gets cool or take them off when it gets warm.
 
I bought a Browning Pheasants Forever jacket which I like alot. They also make a vest aswell, which would be in your price range. I am also a big Filson fan and if you can afford it, I would take alook at there tin cloth or shelter cloth upland vests. ($125US)

I picked up one of their vests for 18$ us from ebay....good score.

Its all tan, we don't have any hunter orange rules here...great vest all around... Check em' out.

Have a look at Filson's "skeleton" style vest ... basically a game bag in back and a set of shell pockets in front. Really "the best" for warm weather, and you can layer whatever you want under it when it's cooler or colder.

The one I have is called a "Tin Cloth Strap Vest" ... have used it regularly for about the past 20 years on everything from Grouse, Woodcock & Pheasant to Quail & Snipe.
 
I've got a filson vest, but I want a starp vest. There's nothing wrong with the full vest, but it can get hot. The strap vest just seems much more versitle.
 
Recommend go with a strap vest as that offers more flexibility......here's is one I use, quite light, excellent ergonomics, lots of room for shells/gear - game bag easily packs 4/5 pheasant sized game. Shell pockets have zippers + a flap with a strong magnet to secure when left unzipped.....easy access in my opinion......each pocket can carry 25 12ga shells yet doesn't weigh you down.
