Thinking of buying another shotgun. Looking for something that accepts steel shot, is reliable and lightweight (7.5lbs or less). Can be synthetic or wood finished. Would like it 12 gauge, but accept 20 too. Any suggestions?

I can't argue with the sheer awwsumness of the A-5.
Shoulder an A-5 in 20 gauge.
Hard not to toss it up in the air.
Deceiving light kritter.

There is a veritable smorgasbord of options that meet your criteria, what is you budget and what are your no compromise must have features? For an upland gun ability to handle steel shot is an unusual request, not that it really handicaps your options.
My personal short list for light semi autos is: Winchester SX3 Field or Black Shadow, Benelli M2, Franchi Affinity, and Browning Auto 5 light 12 or 20.

Depends what your budget is. I have a 20ga. Benelli Super 90 Montefeltro than is a joy to carry on the field as it weigh a little over 6lbs with its 26" barrel. The 20ga Browning Gold/Silver and Winchester SX3 are my favorite semiautos though...although the Japanese built Smith&Wesson M1000 20ga I just picked up is giving them a run for their money!

Currently have a Ruko 410 single shot and a 870 supermag. I would like steel shot capability because I don't think lead shot will be legal for upland forever, and I want the ability to use it for ducks if possible. I want light weight, semiauto, proven platform, budget up to $2000 for the right gun. I need it to be able to handle steel shot. The new Remington semi is interesting, but not a proven platform and new Remington's scare me.

My beretta al391 is an amazing upland gun. Have gotten many birds with it, points nice and shoulders great (for me) I guess the new version is the A400? Might wanna check one out if you can at a local gunshop.

Any of the upper end auto's in a 20 gauge will do fine, Browning Silver or Maxus, Beretta 391 or 400, even a low end Weatherby SA-08... If you plan on using it for waterfowl also, you might want to stick with a 12 gauge, but I prefer 20 gauge for a dedicated upland gun (or 28 gauge)... but I prefer a double for upland shooting.

For a dedicated upland auto-loader : Benelli Ultralight in either 12 or 20. Take a peek at Benelli's web site. 5.2 lbs. in 20 interests me a lot.

I've handled a couple and shot one of them in 20 ga. Great little guns, but not for me ... I like SxS's for grouse & woodcock.

With a $2000 budget you could pick yourself up a SX3 or Franchi affinity and have enough left over for a light weight upland 20 gauge.

would be nice if you could get the ultra light with a 20" rifled slug barrel and synthetic stock
