Upland shotgun suggestions

First off "My Oppinion"

Avoid Stoeger..

Go 16 gauge, not 20... Give good thought to SXS 16 and O/U 16,,although I know you don't want the SXS,... at least check out the over under.


One of the nicest upland hunting guns for the money was the Ithaca XL 900 SKB. Light, quick to point, nice recoil, an overall pleasure to shoot.
Should get one 2nd hand for $400-$600.
 
16 is a decent choice, but can be a real pain in the butt to find shells for unless you plan to reload as well. And when you do find them, they're costly. 20 gauge is much more common, but selection is limited compared to 12 gauge

I hear you,... but !!!

2 years ago I was at the local canadian tire and very surprised to find a great selection of 16 gauge shells, even steel waterfowl loads.

I guess it will depend on where you are located,..

I am very passsionate about the 16, so I'll shut up :D

As for the Stoeger.

I had two semis that went o shirts after a single season waterfowl hunting and one condor supreme that was as comfortable as shooting a cement block..
For the same price go grab a mossberg silver reserve if you need a less exensive O/U,..

Another low price O/U that is a great buy is the Stevens 512 Goldwing. I have one in 28 gauge and it is a solid performer and has not given me a lick of trouble to date. I have had it for a year now, it has digested about 500 rounds in both hunting and backyard clay and never missed a beat. And it is a true 28 gauge frame, where my Franchi 28 is a 20 gauge frame with 28 gauge barrels on it, which I don't mind at all as it is just as light or maybe lighter due to the aluminum reciever but it just feels bigger.
