Other than the laser engraved lettering LMT, are there any forging markings to identify it as an authentic LMT? Please post any close up pics of your LMT 14.5" Uppers. Thx.

Mine says Lewis Machine and Tool, PAT pending etc, these are all written in white. Writing on both sides of upper. Has a few other things written on it. I can look it up later if you really need it. Why whats up with yours? You get an airsoft special?

I got mine from Mark @ Questar...
It's the complete LMT 'Defender'2000..
My upper only has the 'LMT' laser engraved on the left, anterior part of the upper....
Now that I look at it a little closer...THE UPPER IS MADE OUT OF LICORICE!..
Nahhh....just kidding....it's actually made of WAX!
Now seriously...what's with the concerns.....?

Just wondering about authenticity. How could one be certain it was not made in China or something?

I don't have one yet. All the pics I have seen of them have no forging marks at all (just laser engraved 'LMT' lettering), and all other Upper manufacturer pics I seen DO have them. ie. Diemaco, Cerro, Cardinal, or whatever the names of all the forgings are.

USP... sounds like you have an MRP upper which is why it would say PAT pending... that is their own proprietary, patented, upper with quick change barrel system. The markings are different than on a standard upper.

Three things to look for on a standard style LMT upper...

1 - on the barrel you should see stamped: MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 CB
2 - looking into the chamber you should see NOT ONLY the M4 feed ramps on the barrel extension but they should continue into the upper receiver (and they SHOULD NOT look like the were added afterwards by a guy in his basement with a dremel tool :)).
3- on the latest production units you should see a logo (on the right side of the upper receiver, just above the forward assist)... I will try to post a picture of what it looks like... give me a few minutes.

Keep one other thing in mind... LMT makes uppers (and other components) for many of the companies that sell AR's these days... they've been doing that for years... long before they started selling LMT's to the public directly with their own name on them. What they make for other companies will NOT have their logo or markings on it. It also is often made to different specs (each company will have their own specifications that LMT machines the parts to)... still Mil-Spec in the critical areas but each company will have differences in other areas.
