This is not exactly about hunting but I live in London, Ontario which is a pretty big city of over 300,000 people and I like to go jogging at night because its cooler out then in the day but I cannot run for 30 mins without seeing at least 4 skunks and the same amount of rabbits. If I go running around my g/fs place which is just outside the city and is ALOT more forest, back roads, ect the only game I see is Turkey, a few Does and Raccoons once in a while.
Anyways the whole point of this was to see if guys in other "big" cities see alot of small animals at night. I got sparyed by a skunk last night because we both startled each other and that wasn't fun at all...ps. Tomato juice/soup is not the route to take to clean yourself.
 
I have regularly have skunks and raccoons in my back yard and two years ago I had a beaver in my pond and I live in Vancouver near Hastings Street halfway between Chinatown and the PNE.

There was a black bear down the street last year too.

Oh, you need to mix baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap together to wash skunk stink off.

Don't do it in a sealed bottle, it'll blow up.
 
Lots of cool critters run around city streets, much more than people realize. Then reason that you see them more when they end up in cities probably has more to do with limited food sources and even more limited cover.
 
I stayed in a house near downtown london for 3 weeks one time man and i saw skunks, racoons and squirrels everywhere. I wished i could have carried a .22 pistol or something with me because these little buggers would come pretty close to people. A few friends i had at the time thought the skunks were 'cute' and tried to close to one. (girls are weird sometimes) They got about 5 feet away before i realised what they were doing and pulled them the phoque away from the damn thing. Some peoples kids huh? :) It's pretty sh*tty that you got sprayed though. It happened to me too once when i was 11 or 12 when i startled one but he ended up having a nice lead sandwich for supper and i had a nice bath with the stuff you used. Works well enough but i still had a slight "eau de skunk' smell on me for a week or so. Boy did i get teased at school for that one....:) The moral of the story is, keep your bloody eyes open and pay attention to your surroundings. You're not going to get away from every sh*tty situation but it could prevent at least a few bad ones from coming your way. I hope it doesn't happen to you again man. Good luck.

I awoke to the sounds of a fox howling/crying out/baying (whatever you want to call that sick like crying sound) while my dog was outside. I went to see what was wrong with my dog when I saw the fox run across my septic bed out back of my house. Heard him again not far from me while I was working on the yard, but didn't see him. I've also seen the occasional deer. I've been told of bears and coyotes but haven't seen them. I would check with your local MNR cause the laws seem to be very severe about shooting animals. I just found out I can't have a weapon within 800 yards of a school (does that mean in my home or out in the open - legalese on the way!) and that foxes/bears/coyotes can't be hurt unless they are doing property/pet/human damage. So I can't shoot the fox until he has my cats in his mouth and blood coming from my fur-child.
 
A month ago, there were two moose calves on my front lawn.

Ottawa Police Service did a fine job of ushering them to a less-populated area, and shot them.

There have been reports of coyotes in the next town over, but nothing close to home yet.
 
I hunt on a farm in london and have good success. I`ve been hunting for 2 years and I have a huge tom on my wall and I`ve shot 3 does. Still chasing a big buck on that farm...maybe this year ;)

Apparently, animal control is not part of their mandate. It was a big Cluster-frick that made the local news. So far, the Ottawa Cops have shot 3 moose that ventured into town. The issue lies with the fact that neither the Ottawa Police, the Provincial police or the National Capital Commission want to deal with the problem/issue.

Yay for all gov't levels! (insert sarcasm)
 
Tons of rabbits, skunks, and coons. I use to watch 3-4 foxes every morning waiting for my bus at herdman station in the middle of ottawa. Lots of deer too all through the city. Pretty much anywhere there are any kinds of woods there are deer there.

i see skunks, rabbits, coons, squirells, pheasants, muskrats, crows, song birds, even ground hogs, there are several deer that hang around two regular spots too and a family of foxes in one of the industiral parks.
