I had a beaver in my pond this morning.

That might not seem so unusual except that I live near Hastings and Victoria in East Vancouver.

My neighbour called at 7:10 this morning and said bluntly:

"There's a beaver in Deb's front yard, now he's going around the back."

That house is one house away from mine.

I ran outside to look and my cat, a fearless 8-month old was there herding the beaver onto the sidewalk.

It walked right up to me then went between my house and the neighbour's.

A bunch of us got together and guided it into my back yard where I have a pond.

I called the SPCA and when she go there I loaned the beaver catcher a set of waders, put on my Cabela’s ™ Max4 camo waders and we waded in the pond until she got a noose on it and guided it into a box.

CBC TV was here. It might be on the noon or evening news.

Not directed at you MD but how come when wildlife is in town and causing a ruckus it's a human interest story, ie CBC being there, but when wildlife is causing a ruckus in a rural area and people try to deal with it it's an outrage and a travesty! Funny how it's different when not in your back yard.

Ernie Holmes was a warden for the old bowron lakes wildlife preserve..you can read about his involvement with provincial plans to transplant beaver to stanley park in William Hillens book "Blackwater" Poor Ernie had to leave paradise and brave vancouver after the folks decided they didn't like Mildred falling the precious trees. and retrap the beaver to remove them from stanleys park...Ernie would be proud of that beaver!!! I'm proud I knew the man. Cool story!!!

I'm sorry, I just can't resist.

That explains it. I hear dirty cold lonely beaver just wander the streets around there. I'm surprised you're not used to it by now.

Young beaver herding pussy? Sounds like the certain kinds of bar that most of us aren't allowed in.

Beaver often walks up to me, but usually it's a little wobbly on it's legs, and it goes into my house.

She noosed her beaver? Guided it into her box? Geez. In public?
