Urban Coyotes

I like the coyotes here in town by the river
We were overrun with cats... then the yotes came in..no more cat problem, and now with less cats we see less coyotes in this area of town.
Up north its a different story, shoot everyone we see becuase of the neighbours' chickens and sheep.

I live about 1km from city limits. My closest neighbors have no problems with me dispatching coyotes with a 22 around our acreages. One local guy has started trapping them and I sure don't see many during the day anymore.

My wife and I see lots of them while fishing on the Humber in south Toronto. They have no fear, one last summer walked to within 10 feet of us, it seems like it was interested in the lures with scents on them. I pack a Ka-Bar in my fishing bag now.

We have plenty in my neighborhood, was taking to a neighbor and he said one came in while some kids were tobogganing and they threw their sled at it (one of the light foam ones) and it picked it up and carried it across the park. Little jerk. Frustrating to me as we (they) are forced to call conservation to come trap it, I grew up in the country, didn’t need to call the fish cops to come protect me from coyotes. If I wasn’t scared of certain jail time there would be no coyotes in my area.

Too bad large caliber pellet guns are so loud.

Stumbled upon this guy in a Toronto park. He was stalking a woman with her toddler. Chased him off with my car, these guys have zero fear of people

Wow....thats one mangey looking mutt.

Seen 1 back around Christmas right in Guelph. Middle of the day about 40 yds off hwy 7. We had stopped at the red light and I glanced over and there he was walking on the front lawn of a factory property. I rolled the window down and barked at him, and he just looked at me and put his nose back to ground. He wasn't the slightest bit spooked.
My Dad works at a factory right in the City and sees them at least once a week either in small field behind his warehouse and right in the parking lot at any time of day. He was unloading a flat bed 1 day and when he went to back up, their was 1 standing less than 10' behind his forklift. He yelled at him and the yote just walked away 30-40' and sat down and watched him. They have 0 fear down there of humans whatsoever.
For years the geese used to nest in the small field behind his warehouse, but the coyotes were cleaning the eggs up as fast as geese were laying and getting the odd goose as well.
I seen a pair actually breeding early last week but they were over 600 yds across 2 fields. Grabbed the 243 and tried sneaking out closer but only made it 100 yds or so before they seen me and started hightailing it twords the bush. I took a poke at them running but didn't touch them.

There are few here that come into town, but I have only ever seen them in town at night. I think it is likely because there is a high number of snowshoe hare right now.

I take my dog snowshoeing everyday in the woods for a couple of hours and it is very noticeable that the amount of hare's is starting to decrease now.

I currently live well inside Edmonton, and I see them in school fields (at night) and near river valley trails day and night. People have lost cats and dogs to the (pretty smart) 'yotes.

Deer and coyotes live in Hawreluk Park (and I'm sure other parks as well) as I've seen them while X country skiing. I try to chase the coyotes just to scare them/show them who's boss (humans).

The funniest encounter was when I was taking out the trash at night. I came around the corner of my backyard fence just at the same time as a coyote. We both jumped pretty high when we startled each other. He then ran off.

My mom had a fox under her step. Animal control in my jurisdiction dont believe in getting out of their offices for a mere fox--so we shot it with a high power pellet gun (head shot). Problem solved, and didnt cost the taxpayer a thing:)

After getting this mornings coyote skinned, grabbed the trail camera in the back yard. Unfortunately missed some pictures as the camera filled up with snow over the lens and sensor after February 2.

Picked a couple from what I did get on the camera:
