Urgent: need help.

I think I’ll take it to a gunsmith and get them to drill it out with a drill press, hopefully that doesn’t cost too much.

Do not wake a sleeping dog, and....do not touch a rusty screw! Don't put in a Robertson screw, get a correct one.

I would try to weld a short bolt to the screw. Some WD40 would not hurt. Then turn it out.

This! Saved my but a few times. On guns, on bikes too.

I found a gunsmith in Calgary that said they can do it for 30$ thankfully, thanks for all the helpful suggestions everyone.

Can you post pics of the gun and the buttplate area?

I look forward to seeing how this resolves. First approach would be to weld to visible screw shank, second approach would be to use a small bit (1/32nd or smaller) and drill down to screw length completely around the screw then wiggle it out. Fill existing oversized hole with epoxy and re-pilot or use oversized screw to re-attach butt plate.

For some reason I can’t post photos, something about not contributing to the forum enough yet. The gunsmith indicated first plan of attack would be to drill down centre of screw then use an easy-out bit. If that fails, they would drill the screw out completely plug with dowel and drill new hole.
