US AR15 buying frenzy losing steam?

I can't wait to see prices go back to normal. Mainly to laugh at the people here who tried to make people who didn't fall into the craze of buying as fast as possible.

Yep, we all missed out didn't we.... Should've bought bought bought!!

Nahhh

I'll just wait thanks. You rack up your credit card and I'll take up the future good deals. Teaches you for ripping into the people who have patience.

i do agree with you at the core of what you are writing here in this post...

Many people went out of their way to profit off the immediate rush, but there is a reason why getting what you can well you can is still relevent. The political winds will change and that may not be in our favor, and the backlog is at least year if not longer for most things...

I posted a few obsene prices as joke, but other members openly jumped on this wagon for sheer profit, I never sold anything AR related for exobernate prices and don't intend to, but to keep in mind prices have changed now and this will be a very long wait...for many things at least.

You might be waiting a very long time. Everything right now is a crap shoot. You don't know what's going to happen. The export rules and regs. might change then you will be SOL.

Well here is what I did. Buy now what I could afford that had normal price and try to buy what I intended to buy sooner. I did not buy 100 $ magpul mag or anything ar15 for fear off not being able to buy any. I both the ar I wanted on special ( boxing day)

I know my local gun shop jacked up the price on they're Ruger 10/22s. I was told, and I trust the particular employee, they raised the prices because they just. can't. get. enough of the guns they order. i.e. they got a shipment of guns for monday, before the day was over they had sold over 20 10/22s ON MONDAY! So I paid $290 instead of the $250 normal price for the gun.

Ruger is 6-8months behind on orders.

I cant belive .22 is what is in demand. How are they running out of it and who is buying it all ? I know that my buddy in alberta cant get his hands on 7.62x39.... But here the local shop has enough for another cold war...

Prophet river had some just phone around

It is weird to see the ammo threads on ARFCOM were people are So Excited they found some bricks of .22.

Really? .22 is that hard to come by? It is everywhere :) In Canada anyway.

I actually saw a Savage MK II that I wanted in stock this week.
Maybe I should pick it up then.
The price was below what I've seen it for in the past also.

Depends on what you are looking for. There seem to be plenty of corrosive surplus, but the non-corrosive supply seems pretty much non-existent. I'm not even talking about fancy stuff, like brass cased, boxer primed soft point...

I read an article a while back which basically said

Stock comes and goes, stores usually order several weeks/months in advance to receive shipment, they have a finite stock and usually stock items so they get sold as soon as it can come in. They keep a balance, and factories for guns and ammo can only pump out as much as their weakest link... if the factories can double up production, but their raw material supplier can only boost up 5%.. 5% more is all you get. There was a short term demand which was retarded and unheard of, people bought up stocks and backordered numerous items, so instead of a years sales evening out, we have it all in the span of a few months, the orders which normally trickled in are now all accounted for, dealers placed additional orders (all of them) and get placed into the queue, as the items come out (maybe 1000s at a time, who knows) they get sent to the backorders, creating this perception of no supply when they are supplying tons of it to the people who ordered a hoarders amount of items. Eventually it'll go back to normal levels/prices (maybe even less as demand drops sharply once the outstandings are filled).

Take it for whats it's worth.

Walmart tried to order 2.4 million 10/22's for 2013. Ruger only makes 2.1 million so demand is much higher than supply on some items and stores will never be fully stocked as demand simply outstrips supply. It's now this way for a lot of things gun related. Obama has scared a lot of previously none shooters into the sport and they are still buying. The market doubled in size literally overnight in fact tripled its going to take time for it all to balance out. Buy what you want when you can.

ill buy what i want when the price makes sense, almost 10 years in and the saaaaaaaaaaaaaame #### happens every 4 years. call me crazy or awesome --- im just cheap!

I dunno, you may be pretty awesome. As I've never met you you could be, for all I know. You could also be crazy, too.

If the bills are defeated I think there will be a dumping of rifles that were gotten at over flated prices and the market will crumble in the US. Right now gun makers are trying to catch up to the demand 20-50% of the guns being put back into the market at reduced prices will drop what people will pay for a rifle just as right now people were thinking for a while 1500 is reasonable or even cheep for a $1000 rifle people will think $750 is reasonable for a 1k rifle sales will stanigate as buyers start holding out for cheeper guns when they start hearing stories of joe and frank paying 500-750 instead of 1k suddenly.

Of course the way that this can be prevented is if Obama and gang make a "were not done, we will sill still take them!" statement.

You probably wont see a decrease significantly in demand in the new few months at least regardless of what happens. Folks down here understand you are probably one or two shootings away from a ban, even if it does not happen now.
