Could'nt agree more. I can still see that prick of an RSM tearing my crew apart for wearing non issue kit in the field, course he was back at H.Q, never even saw a puddle or slept in ####e, said we were a disgrace to the uniform blah blah...Drove right past the lads in his unit after that, call the AA eh LOL. The kit really can ONLY get better tho, bloody difficult to get any worse
 
Haha the kit can get worse, if you're in cadets and you get all the WW2 surplus crap

I used to name my canteen 'jet stream jizz' because it dribbled and sprayed out the side when they made me run all day in my combat boots. I kind of miss that canteen now, the ever-linging flavour of IMP juice crystals from that one time I made orange juice out in the field, or the name of my 14 year old girlfriend I engraved in the side of it, or the picture of a FAL I tried to put on it with a stolen mess hall knife
 
When I first worked with Cadets in Canada I thought it was a re-enactment group :)
Those poor kids running around in stuff that was last used in Korea....have they no shame. And of course nothing fits anybody....ever...

This reminds me of those crap Thermold mags the CF used to issue during the early '90's. I remember opening a brand new mag on the range in June, loading it with 28 rds, inserting it gently into the mag well of the C7 and at the moment of contact the left lip of the magazine broke.

A lot of people started carrying mags that they picked up in surplus stores! I guess the poop hit the fan when they started charging guys in Bosnia for using non issue mags. Thankfully the thermolds were eventually removed from service.
 
Did I miss where this had anything remotely to do with Battle Rifles? Is Magpul now catering to M1A/M14 guys? Seems more a Black Rifle topic, where it was already covered.

And if you think that your RSM was born an RSM and was never a lowly grunt, you should be digging latrines in your spare time as this subject is clearly too deep for you.

Jeez ....I'd heard about these but thought it was just BS. Nice CONtract for somebody there eh, did they come with rubber bayonets :) You poor buggers and I thought the Brits were bad .............
How long did they actually remain in service ? If Im correct werent these mags supposed to be disposable, but the CF were making you guys reload, with all the inherent problems.
 
I have a story above about how well those pieces of crap worked in the winter time, back in the day. I got in trouble for trading with Americans for their USGI mags. The Thermos were supposed to be disposable in the begining, but QM Stores started handing out rounds without the mags. We were told to keep what we had for mags. Lol! Bad budgeting I guess.
 
Thermold mags were removed from operations in 1994 and from service with reg forces unit a few years afterwards.
Keep in mind that we were a garrison army back then.
It is nice to be living in the past, but doesn't necessary reflect current reality... Move on! :D

Ah cool,
Another old guy like myself. I'm sure things are much better as far as the organization of Operational command. But probably not. Lol! They always screwed up on my pay!
 
I thought as far as reliability went, Pmags were much better. We all know the AR has bigger problems then just the mags but if Pmags help then why not use them?

Actually, lost of limbs was not an issues in Bosnia / Croatia... A few cases, but limited

PTSD / OSI... That is another story
Some of the reasons, ROEs and equipment.... All realted to being a garrison army
