Hey guys~I never post in this forum, but I've always been fascinated by the original US army humvees, dreamt of owning the pick-up version one day...but budget alone makes it impossible for me. As a result, I never looked into it, checked availability, etc...but got a call from my brother in law Monday night saying there was a guy selling some of them near where he works. Swung by there yesterday afternoon hoping there were no pick-ups and yes...there they were. lol I took a few photos that I'll try to upload tonight, but is availability of these things old news in Ontario/Canada..or is this a big deal? I honestly don't know.

I thought they were supposed to be chopped. Could be some rebuilds.

They're running, street legal (according to the guy selling them). Some mismatched parts, he indicated that in keeping these running while in service, they'd "rob Peter to pay Paul"...and take parts off of lesser vehicles to keep better ones going. Also said he can get any parts for them, can do the service...but parts are pricey. (ie, alternator approx. $1,000 when the dust settles)

$1000 alternator. You'd be better off buying a small block , having it rebuilt and sticking it in there. Those old 6.2 Detroit engines caused a lot of problems from what I've read. Yes it would drink gas sure but it would be reliable. My buddy had a 6.5 model and it drank fuel like an oil tanker too.

Link? address? phone #?

Hey lister~I'm not affiliated with this guy, but he's a heavy equipment business... I didn't make a note of the name. (standing beside the dream vehicle I'd never even seen in the flesh...I was a little distracted) I'll check Google maps, it's should be easy to track down.

How much? And how rusty?

He indicated the pick-ups (2) were in the $27K-$30K range, but since I wasn't shopping (and mentioned that right up front)...I wasn't going to waste his time low-balling. lol I did tell him that if he decided to rent them, I'd be back on the weekend. He said it crossed his mind, but I don't think that's the plan. He also mentioned that he'd sold one already. Rust~these trucks look well-used, but only noticed a few dents, almost no corrosion. I didn't go over them of course, didn't even sit in one (though I was awfully tempted to ask if I could) There was one in his fenced-in yard he was keeping for himself, looked like an aftermarket front bumper and shiny new aluminum doors. All the ones on the lot had soft doors, at least a couple were missing front doors. One was desert-colored, the others camo green.

I can't upload to PB from where I am...but I could text someone photos if they'd care to upload...?

lol, I understand being blinded by the coolness of the Humvee! Look forward to the info.

^Indeed. lol Don't know the business name, so I PM'd you where the business is so nobody thinks I'm advertising for them. Offer stands to text some photos if anyone would care to post here. Otherwise, I'll see if PhotoBucket is in a cooperative mood tonight.

**I should add, the pick-up was configured as a troop carrier with bench seats on both sides in the back. The hankering level hit 11. lol

Wonder if it would be worth doing a duramax engine conversion ?
That non turbo 6.5 has serious reliability issues

Friend of mine did it to his 6.5. There is a kit I believe that helps with mounts and wiring harness. It was a lot of work, but he says totally different vehicle now, much better mileage. He was into it for about $5-6000 and done the work him self. On the cheap I still think a v8 gas conversion would be the way to go. The 8.1 gm bb out of the 2500 would be a nice conversion.

Been googling these... still allot of money (retail) for a 30 year old surplus vehicle. Import broker costs, transport costs, saftey costs, plus the sellers mark-up piled onto a ~$5000 USD surplus Humvee.

They weren't destined to be chopped.

There are 1000's for sale in the USA.
Some good some bad.

There are some near Toronto but like $35k CAD.

You better know what you're getting into if buying. Hahahaha

You never post on this forum but you have 3,415 posts ...

There is a nice one down near the lethbridge if i remember correctly.
For that price you would probably be better off buying one out of the auction and brig it in yourself.
They're obviously making a tidy profit doing it.
