Has anyone have any info on this incident?
Just found this ...

''RCMP is investigating the shooting death of a bear hunter on Monday near Houston, B.C.

Mounties say the deceased is a 59-year-old U.S. man, who was bear hunting with guides in the Tahtsa Reach Forest Service area which is approximately 112 kilometers south of Houston.

“All parties involved in the incident have been spoken to by police,” Houston RCMP stated in a release.

Members of the Houston RCMP are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and are being assisted by the North District Major Crime Unit, the North District Forensic Identification Unit and the BC Conservation Service. The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an investigation.

The RCMP are not releasing the dead man’s name although his family, through the assistance of authorities in Washington State, has been notified

And people wanna go and shoot a Sasquatch, hope this is not a repeat of mistaken game or worse yet a targeted shooting of a Hunter.

Rob

No info is being released for now. Coroners are in charge right now, family has been notified in the States. Bad news.

Definitely bad news.
Global at 5pm stated that the hunter was shot by a guide . They said a Grizzly bear had been shot in the evening and was not recovered. They were searching for it the next morning. Apparently it was still alive. Nothing further was revealed.

Yes, Global news report wasn't complete.

It left a little too much detail out to be able to piece a proper picture of the even.

Clearly noted that it wasn't ruled an accident, but not a homicide either.

Very, very sad.

A very sad situation....my condolences to the mans family , may he RIP.....but at least he died while living life , and not sitting home staring at four walls , and worrying about death....as they say " he died with his boots on ".....and doing something he enjoyed...

I'm fighting the anti's over at the Globe and Mail. Posters are saying that they are glad a hunter is dead. I could use some help there if any Nutz have access.

Wow! Most of those comments are way over the top! The anti hunters are a classy crowd for sure...

Shot by a guide? If that is true, what a stupid guide he is!
I always told my hunting partners the same words: "It takes a bear several minutes to maul and kill a person, but it takes only one shot from a fellow hunter to kill him."
It is sad to have a reckless guy as a guide.

From what was said on the news the bear wasn't just not dead it reared and came at them. The fellow was probably accidentally shot in the commotion of trying to fend off the attack. So what was the guide to just sit there and let his client get mauled? You were not there and we don't know all the details so let's save the judgements for when the facts are in. Talk like that is as bad as the Antis...

those people make me sick, hunter or not the comments are downright disgusting. I would love to have a look at their lives and tell their family that an accidental death was warranted based on some obscure choice they made.

I used to live in Houston and the information that I heard (probably 3rd or 4th hand by that point) was that there were several people involved on a guided hunt with a wounded bear surrounded and it reared up and one of the hunting party was shot in the commotion. Really sad scenario for all involved. It sounded likely to be an accident but I'm sure more details will come out in the next few weeks.

I think I better understand anti now. They want to deny people to have firearms fearing to be hurt because they would *themselves* be unable to be responsible with a firearm.

The one sentiment I haven't heard (or read) yet is, what about the poor fellow who accidentally shot another human being while trying to get control of a dangerous situation. It's a bad deal all around for all involved, and yes it does happen from time to time, more often in Africa, due to the much larger percentage of dangerous game hunted there. It is just another danger that we as hunters face and accept, for the most part, when we decide to hunt with another person. Add dangerous game, fear and adrenaline to the combo and unfortunately sometimes the outcome is the worst one possible, as we have just heard.
My heart goes out to all involved, and the family who has lost it's loved one.

Not sure if I can find it on the net, but I don't think this is the first time this kind of accident has happened recently.

I know trying to make sense of the anti hunters comments is pointless however I can't believe the things they say. A man has lost his life and they are happy about it. That is truly sickening. Sad story RIP sir.

One only needs to read the comments on the mop & pail or the CBC on various articles to realize who the extremists in this country are.

Self righteous people are way more dangerous than law abiding gun owners. Yet the latter sure gets the short end of the stick time and time again.
