US exporter to Canada

Our fees are $195 for the first firearm on a shipment, $150 for the second and $100 for each after that. We ship every 4-8 weeks bring about 250 per shipment. Rifles take less time for paperwork than shotguns.

Clay explain please...

So I buy an old high valued shotgun off gunbroker and it gets shipped to a warehouse in montana.
A week later I buy 2 savage rifles from a store and it gets to the warehouse in montana.
Next day I buy a used private sale (non prohib) revolver and it gets to the warehouse in montana.

I pay you $445 plus gst and canadian shipping???

Clay what would it cost to bring in a barrel worth $300.00 US funds?

One of my goals for 2010 is to get a s/s T/C Contender carbine barrel in 45 Colt and if this works I would like a few more barrels from MGM/SSK/Bellm.

Questar has explained time and again that they pay extra because they are a high-volume importer - so blame the US rules for the high fees.

If you don't like them - then go somewhere else.

I understand some high-value guns go through them because the collectors like Questar's level of experience and service. Certainly it was a good experience when I dealt with them. I don't deal with them anymore because I don't buy high-value guns.

Questar's bringing in a $4k shotgun, and a special .218 Bee for me as we speak. The cost was $750 for the pair, as you can do two guns on one import. I've also used Leroy's in the past, VERY cost effective and good people, they'll still help out on shotguns and antiques though it sounds like they're winding down. They'll do a shotgun for $100 plus ship.

As for Questar, they are very fast, and very efficient in this. Now, I was in a rush as I'm buying two very specific guns, that I wouldn't get a crack at twice, and the sellers were nervous to get their money and fire them off to a FFL ASAP. Just say "Canadian" once to get any US seller's nerves up on the sale not being likely to reach completion, no matter how much you explain they'll still just be shipping to an FFL. So, Questar was in touch with the sellers and had the guns enroute within a couple days, works for me. Hopefully it's quick getting them through too. Pricey? YES... but with two guns, it's more palatable.

I actually asked Clay in a roundabout way, my fault for being indirect, if he could find me a Ruger Gold Label but I see he's a busy fellow and can't blame him for not wanting to chase down an out of production, rare gun. I should have asked if he could import as I could find what I was after in time, an unfired one, and I would have used him in a heartbeat, especially at that price. Questar's pricey so far, but looking good on the service and speed too. Hoping it's a get-what-I-pay-for deal, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Yes, exactly. Doesn't even have to be that close in time. We ship every 4-8 wks and you can just request we hold until you have done buying. It makes things very cost effective for you as the price gets to $100 per AND when we ship to you, they can all go together.

One cost a lot of people forget about is the shipping cost when they are shipped across the border by courier. Its a bit of a shock to go to the airport to pick them up (takes two trips, BTW, as one must pay and them wait for agaents to inspect before they will realease) and see the binded courier fees-often over $300 or so.

Buffalo Gun Center

No need to call. Buffalo Gun Center Charges $100.00 and will meet you at the border with it. If you want them to bring it across and mail it to you it is an extra $50.00. AFAIK it is the same price for restricted and non-restricted. You just pay the P.S.T. and G.S.T. on it like you would anything else. I know many Cowboy guys from my group have done it with some regular revolvers and saved quite a bit over buying in Canada, plus they had the stock. Some unique stuff as well.

This is why BGC is my US FFL of choice... They actually have stock.
If they don't have what you want they will get it for you in a matter of days... Not months.
'Longest wait I had to endure was a couple of weeks for a pair of Benelli M4's, They did have one, but at the time the wholesaler had none available. So instead of making up two sets of invoices we just waited until the second gun arrived and processed 'em both at the same time.

'Savings... ? Well, Cdn retail was about $2100ea. plus tax. Cost from BGC was $1550ea. Cdn all in.

If you're ever there ask for a tour, but be sure to have an extra pair of pants with you.

Agree with the above 1000%

and some extra info, this place is great if you leave close by, can drive there or have friends and family that can help you out, for those out East and out West, well not so much if you need to do it on your own......

They do not list prices or inventory on the website they have. You can drive over and look at what they have, even hold any and all in your hands, rifles, pistols, shotguns, etc....

If you know exactly what your after, call them, make an order, make a deposit, via credit card, and wait for the call to come and get it....

If prices have not changed, it's 100 for the first pistol, and 50 for each additional one if it's on the same bill.

They do all the paper work, and I mean all, even the import papers we need from Ottawa, the only thing you do, is once you have a serial number of your pistol your register it here, you will get your certification, at which point when its ready to go and get your pistol, all you now need to do is get a STATT from the border to home, call a few days in advance for this

go to store, pay for the item in full, they will then have you follow them to the border, at the border you pay your GST/PST and duties if any, they hand you the pistol (the guys form the store) and off you go home....

Simple, Simple, Simple

if you need more info, call the store ask for Larry, he does all the Exports....

Cheers

Been there and done that with Leroy's. DHL was the courier. Turned an expensive custom AR lower into an exorbitant customer AR lower. Never again.

About $75. I'd just tag it on with another T/C, otherwise, it would be the same as a rifle.

Yep, that's why we bring 250 at at time, give or take. And, we bring them ourselves, otherwise, what looks like a good deal, soon ceases to be. Our fees are all inclusive except for the GST and the small amount of shipping from Lloydminster to you, if needed.

I suggest you try Neil at Old West Hardware. I use him exclusively and he is always fair and easy to deal with. He will have it done faster than most and done right the first time. Tell him Rusty Wood sent you.

Okay, it looks like fees are as follows:

Dave's Sport Shop: $US 249 + 3% of export value + $100 to bring it to a Canadian Post office and mail it
Questar International: $749
Buffalo Gun Center: ? (will call on Monday)

any others?

Hi all - our export site for those interested is www.davessports.com/export. In addition to the option to import for you (above), we offer direct shipping to Canada via USPS for long guns (pistols are harder, and have to go to another dealer). The shipping cost for that, tracked and fully insured, is usually only $50 - 80 from our store to your door.

Another couple exporters that I'm aware of (you may think I'm crazy for posting competition here, but we're confident we offer value) are:

ETSS Inc. in Colorado: $250 + 15% (minimum $130 per gun)
Griffin & Howe in New Jersey: $750 per 2 firearms
Simpson Ltd in Illinois: $400 for 1 -2 guns

It's important to remember though, that most of these exporters use expensive freight forwarders, air freight only, brokers, etc. So by using Buffalo Gun, us at Dave's Sports Shop, etc you can save significant amounts on that. Buffalo Gun, last time I talked to them, would only export guns they sell to you directly, unless it's a used gun they couldn't get.

We are often also able to give a discount on the export fee if it's for a new firearm that's sourced through us. Feel free to email export@davessports.com ... or post questions on here.

Cheers,

Have only imported rifles once and Dave's made it very easy for me. They even brought the rifles to the border for me so I didn't have to spend days wondering what canadapost was doing with my new toys. Thanks guys it was greatly appreciated. Jim

This might be a stupid question but.. Does a place like:
http://w w w.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php
or buffalo gun center

charge extra for doing all the paperwork aswell?

Bud's Gun Shop used to work with LeRoy's in Montana as export agents until LeRoy's stopped exporting rifles and pistols. Buffalo Gun Center, from my understanding, if you buy the gun through them and are able to make the drive to them, charge $100 extra for the export licensing process and paperwork.
