I was sure that I read somewhere that it was possible to screw a US made muzzle device on the end of a Chinese M14 barrel. Well, no luck with my Vortex... Is there a big difference in threads?

Plan B is to re-thread just behind the existing threads and then trim the barrel off to fit, but I was hoping to avoid this.

Look up the smith enterprises adapter. It's secured to the barrel by the metric castle nut and on the other end it has standard threads. I believe it will accept 5/8"x24 accessories. :)

I wasn't thinking of re-threading the flash hider. My idea is to redo the barrel threads just behind the existing threads where the barrel is still thick. A small section of barrel would have to be cut off so that the end wouldn't butt up against the flash hider before the threads tightened. Just thinking out loud here, but I think it could work.

probably easier just to cut it back behind the spline cutouts, thread it however you need for your flash hider, and thread the inside of the original flash hider incase you ever want to use it again..

Im assuming you are just going to be losing the front sight post all together with your american FH setup ?

If you check out Misanthropists' sticky on threading the original FH to make a shorty, you can just do that with yours, but at mostly full length.. a longy :D

Probably not a good idea to start chopping your barrel as I am assuming (based on your info) you probably bought a SEI Direct Connect Vortex FH which has 5/8 x 24 threads.

5/8 x 24 threads are too big for a Norinco barrel if you decide to chop and thread for a FH.

SEI made a small run of 9/16 x 24 Vortex FH’s years ago specifically to screw on to our thin profile Norinco barrels but they are like finding hens teeth these days as Vortex FH’s are now restricted for export to Canada.
