Any opinions on the US Optics scopes versus Schmidt & Bender?

Which dealers will make a special order of a US Optics scope?

US optics is much more versatile in that they will custom make scopes to your specs. Personaly I have used both, and both are top the best quality, I would lean more towards US Optics.

USOPTICS offers a wide selection of custom scopes. I have seen one unit and was grossly disappointed. I have yet to see a disappointing Nightforce. Hopefully the SB 5-25 will be as impressive as all the reports I have heard.

Joe,

Just out of curiosity, what about the US Optics did you not like? I have personally seen several differant models and found them to be of super quality. I have shot rifles equiped with the SN-3, a custom SN-2 and the MST-100, all of which were very impressive. Now, that being said, they are very expensive, aswell are the S&B scopes, and I look at it this way, if Ronnie Barrett is confident enough to mount the Bushnell Elite 3200 10X tactical on his .50's as one of two "factory installed" scopes available, I would rather put the the remaining $3000 in a hot rifle, but that is just my opinion!

I was looking for a "good" scope a while ago and had a chance to compare a USo and SB side by side. Really wanted the USO to win as it was about 900 cheaper. Took the SB home with no regrets, really like the P-4 fine reticule and first focal plane but they took some getting used to. Just my two cents

Whats the diff between the 1.1–4 x 20 CQB Short Dot Police Marksman II and the S&B Zenith 1.1–4 x 24 ?

I see the slight weight and size differences but has anyone seen both together?

The Short Dot is build as a military duty scope.
The Zenith is more of a hunting scope.

If your not planning on using the scope in the world of evil, the Short Dot is typically overkill.

Steve - I had one that was less then impressive. I know you can form a solid opinion from one scope but at the price they wanted I couldn't see the value. When I spoke to USOPTICS about their scopes, they did say they were having problems with the Cdn issue scopes. I honestly don't know what they have done to take care of these issues but suspect they would.

They definitely go where no mfg has gone and certainly appear to be a scope that is the heaviest duty I have ever seen. For my light duty use, most of their tough construction would be wasted $$$.

If they are the only ones who make the features you require, by all means I would say go for it. I am pretty sure they would make good on any quality issues like any other quality company.

S&B all the wAys

and more ammo for shooting instead!

just wondering the price in regards to the shortdot. I have heard that you can contact them (S&B) for military pricing. I am wondering if someone could pm me with the military price and also what credentials are needed to get it i.e. faxed in mil id, etc.

I am still not at the point where I am going to put up the money, just considering my options. It seems that every time I make a "decision" on the optic I am going to buy for upcoming tour I end up changing my mind, being swayed by someone, or finding a better option. Luckily I still have lots of time. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas

In the past, a lot of shooters on many of the American boards refused to buy or support U.S. Optics due to the $hitty attitude of the owner, and the poor customer service.

I don't know if these issues have been rectified since then.

I have shot with both S&B & U.S. Optics scopes and IMHO, they both are top notch. The one point in U.S. Optics favor is the custom options. But when I want something, I want it NOW, so when a deal came up on a 5 - 25 X 56mm PMII, I jumped at it!!!!!

I DO NOT regret buying the S&B.:dancingbanana:

Skullboy is correct, the service at US Optics sure did suck, very badly. John Williams was not known to be the most polite person, he was actually a complete ####, but since his passing, his son has taken the lead, and he is fantastic to deal with, and unlike his dad, he is also Canada friendly. On these 2 makes, when you get up to this kind of $$$, you cannot go wrong with either.

I didn't know that John had passed on..............

Good to hear that his son has changed things for the better.:D

If you want more info on either scope, you can contact ED BEGG/V-Bull Precision here on CGN.He has used almost every scope out there and can get both S&B and U.S. Optics.

Skullboy,

Yah he died in a motorcyle accident a few years back. His son John Jr. has since taken over the company and is a pleasure to deal with. No talking ill of the dead, but it is like night and day dealing with his son.
