US powder & primer

You can but you may not. You'll be breaking US law exporting components without proper documentation.
So, you may end up coming home a few years later with a record ...
 
You can do it until you get stopped by a US EXPORT check. That will be the last time you are ever set foot in the US.


To export any components you need a US EXPORT permit. Only a registered US exporter can apply for that permit and takes a month or two to get it. According to US Law, exporting components is not much different than exporting a firearm. IMPORTING into Canada isn't a problem, Canada doesn't really care as long as you declare components.
 
I live on the border and across the line is a great gunshop. Would love to buy stuff there, however I know I need the proper paperwork and from my experience the US Border Patrol often has checkpoints going back into Canada, at least several times a week.

It is not worth the risk. I wish the laws were different but those are the rules we have to follow.

I am still amazed at how many locals here do it and don't realize they are breaking US laws or the punishment they face, it is one of the things I always tell shooters around here to be aware of. Most never even knew it was illegal.

As far as Canadian Customs, I think you could bring in a truckload of Taliban and as long as you declared them they would be okay with it. Huge difference in the way the US Customs does business and Canadian Customs, which I think are just glorified tax collectors. It seriously scares me that they will be carrying firearms at some point.

yes, you can buy
yes, you can come back into canada with it
no, you can't take it out of the states without permits
 
Buy from a CANADIAN DEALER !!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have the hoops to jump through so support our dealers.

Saving a few hundred over a year or giving the USA a few years. I'll buy here.
 
its too bad really but no you can not

yes lots of guys do it they either dont know,"allways have" or dont care

if and when they get caught they will lose the items thats for sure maybe get charged and maybe get banned from the usa

bottom line if if you dont get charged or banned the experince will NOT be one you want to remember those homeland security guys are not that friendly when they catch you breaking the law
 
There's more to it than just the export licence (and bear in mind if it's shotgun power, it only requires a Commerce Dept. licence and they aren't that hard to get).

Explosives also have to be approved by Natural Resources, if you bring back something that's not on the approved list, CBSA are supposed to seize it. Whether they will check closely enough is an open question.
 
canada customs at my port have been sending people back to the u.s. who haven't stopped and had their vehicle titles for export stamped by the americans...5000.00 fine's are being levied by the states, per infraction. What's to stop them from sending you back if you don't have an export permit for the ammo you declared????? Nothing at all.
