US soldiers evaluating new pistol

They mention testing the pistol a lot in the article. They already bought the gun so it's hard to consider it some sort of trial. They can't exactly say no now. I suppose if anything the people "testing" the pistol might offer feedback for improvements, which will probably be promptly ignored.

I wouldn't think so given there is about $550MM or more involved. Beretta made changes to the M9 after the Navy boys ran a bunch of +P machine gun ammo through them and managed to break some slides. Also, increased the size of the hammer pin.

When you are dealing with a company the size of the US Army, you want to please if you can. Folks have long memories.

Take Care

Limited test trials are always a good thing before large scale production.

Look at the changes that took place in the 1903 Springfield, Garand and m15 after adoption and large scale production had started.

Yes indeed, there were a few changes that would have been nice on the FN FAL/L1A1 and FN C1/C2 that would have been nice.

I liked the C1, except for it's limited range back sight, 100 to 600 yards.

Being able to adjust the windage on the back sight and vertical adjustment on the front sight were nice features though.

The biggest problem with the C1A1 aside from its reduced reliability in arid conditions, was the placement of the Rear Sight and Foresight on different components of the rifle. Placing the Rear Sight on the Lower Receiver and the Foresight on the Upper Receiver further limited the rifle's inherent accuracy as play between the Receivers resulted in slop within the sights. The C1's weight and length were also significant shortcomings by modern standards, but typical of the post-WW2 Battle Rifle genre (including the HK G3, M14, and others).
