US sources for antique guns

You don't have to be a business or be in the gun business to use their (Borderview's) service. I generally import 3 or 4 guns a year through them (most have been antiques in the US but restricted firearms in Canada). They are pretty good about communicating if you have some questions.

As other posters have noted, there is no federal law forbidding shipping antiques out of the US - just some sellers are difficult to deal with and using an importer/exporter makes it easier.

As I've posted at least half a dozen times elsewhere, the onus is on the buyer to make sure he knows the law of both countries as well as the state he's dealing with. Yes they can be cheaper stateside, but they can also be mislabelled, misidentified, or mechanically flawed. All of these issues affect you as the buyer because CBSA or the US border services will seize an item for the first two reasons and you will end up with a worthless piece of junk and no recourse against the seller for the third.

I post this because I've been getting more and more pm's and emails over the last year asking for help with guns stuck at the border or in horrible mechanical shape, both of which were pretty evident from looking at the ad or asking basic questions, yet the buyer had gone ahead through naivete or foolishness and tossed their money away and sometimes incurred a stern phone call from the police for attempting to import a prohib without paperwork or licence.

The EE is no different in this regard, I've had some duds in my time.

Absolutely... I really can't disagree with you there :p

That said, there's recourse against cgn'ers with poor practices here - at worst there's the fraud section, but there's also a lot more attention payed to trader rating, they can be outed on the forum through PM if need be, and generally the community seems a lot tighter. I have found the states has a wider range - some guys will crawl the distance of the US to make sure you get a spare screw they forgot to include while others will deliberately lie and mislead as much as they can then will berate you and try to get you banned from the US if you attempt to hold them accountable for lieing about the deal (yep... someone tried this on me after they claimed they didn't get the payment, I had it traced to them and threatened legal action).
