I have noticed an interesting discrepancy in handgun pricing here vs the US. If you are looking at a modern polymer gun or the latest offering from Sig or CZ we seem to pay a premium here in Canada after allowing for currency conversion. On the other hand, if you are shopping for a collectible from either of the world wars or a classic revolver from Colt or S&W the pricing here often seems like a real deal compared to the US. It's not often that buying here in Canada results in a saving over the US but this seems to be one such case. Has anyone else noticed this?

Over 10x the population with a higher % of firearms ownership. This means more collectors.
I would doubt there was a 10-1 ratio for the majority of the war collectibles which were distributed.
Higher demand, higher prices.

90% of the guns are made in usa. No big suprise they are cheaper.
One guns that we get better deals on are the CZ shadow's and such. A S2 is going for 1300 USD vs 1250 in Canada. Not to mention the S2 was in Canada MONTHS before CZ-USA got their hands on theirs.

I agree, it is very unfortunate how we pay more for stuff and it sucks that once our dollar is stronger it takes forever for prices to lower. We have to keep in mind that CDN distributers purchase in bulk, they cant instantly lower prices of instock inventory if they bought at a time where our dollars was the sh*ts.

ready because I know where this topic is headed lol...I buy mostly stuff that is 40-100 years old so my interest in raising the topic is more about the deals we get on that collectible stuff. I own guns that I see listed for 50-100% more on US sites than what I paid here.
No surprise about the new stuff....Modern new products in the retail distribution chain are almost always going to cost more in Canada than the US regardless of what they are. It's about competition, volume, and the cost of doing business here.

The currency exchange rate doesn't really enter into it as I'm referring to when you compare US to CDN pricing after factoring in the conversion.

This, plus most pistols need a special barrel for Canada, because the extra 5mm protects the children... that comes with significant cost.
I've noticed in auctions lately that more and more of certain types of 12-6 prohibs (specifically short-barrelled S&W revolvers) are being bought by US bidders. The value of these guns is considerably higher in the US, since only a small percentage of licensed gun owners on this side of the border can buy/own them.
I think that's true and it applies to more than just 12(6) stuff in Canada. I know when I've told people on the S&W forum some of the prices (converted to USD) for things like pre model number K-38's and K-22's or early Model 19's,27's etc the response has been "wow, you stole that!" I think the US has more collectors than we do here and thus higher prices.
