USA and Flintlocks?

Is the flintlock rifle considered a firearm in the U.S.? Is it in the same catagory as antique firearms which do not require registration?

all black powder stuff in the states is considered a non gun even inlines. but at least flintlocks you can bring home with no paperwork.

That is close but not completely true; guns which use modern primers are considered modern but the same gun with a conventional perc nipple is antique, in the US.
Nessy can probably tell you the appropriate section of Us law that defines antiques, if not I am sure that I have it buried somewhere in my files. Of particular note however is that you probably have to stay in a motel the first night of entering the US, according to the news a couple of days ago. You must now, amongst other things give the US Immigration , the address you will have to be staying at the first night. The question for those going to a rondyvous is; how well will "I am camping in the bush near Squim" wash --- probably not well.

But, a black powder shooter in our club ordered a flintlock form Dixie Gunworks by phone. He just called them up, gave his credit card info, and it was delivered right to his door in a couple of weeks. No questions, no problems.
