USA made Glocks VS Austrian

How dare they put USA on a Glock pistol.....f@ck'n disgrace.

Glock put Austria on the map.....who ever gave the green light to have new Glock pistols stamped USA needs a kick in the teeth. I would NEVER buy a Glock with USA roll marks....ever.

Glock 3rd Gen made in AUSTRIA.

Even 4th Gen are complete trash and a disgrace to the Glock name, those weird slide serations, rough texture, bla,blas....pathetic trash.

There's only 1 True Glock style, and that's standard Glock 3rd Generation stamped GLOCK 17 AUSTRIA 9X19. Even 1st and 2nd generation Glocks get more respect than 4th gens trash....cause 1st & 2nd Gen was stepping stones to get to the Final design....the 3rd Generation Glock pistol, stamped made in AUSTRIA.

GLOCK PERFECTION ;)

actually there is a difference in the chemical composition of the frame the slides are imported as well either way personally made in USA is just an expensive version made in China quality. I could be wrong as usual.

There is no record anywhere on the internet about a real difference in quality between the USA and the Austrian model. The reason why I did the research is because I am getting a USA model tomorrow, my other GLOCK has the Austrian rolls marks.

Here is what I found.
Roll marks
Austrian models: Glock with Austrian rolls marks on the slide and MADE in Austria on the frame, are made in Austria. The pentagon on the barrel indicates that the barrel is a barrel with polygonal rifling.
US model : the USA roll marks and made in USA in the frame, indicates it was completely made in USA. The pentagon in the barrel indicates the barrel has polygonal rifling.

Proof Marks:
Austrian model (for export aka the one we get): in the barrel you can find the serial number, the AT stamp that stands for Austria, the Glock logo, the polygonal rifling stamp. This guns are proofed in US, BUT have no proofing roll marks, they come with 2 fired casings (fired in the US, by US techs with signature + date of the test).
Austrian model (for Austrians): same as above, with proof marks indicating that the gun has been proofed (shot at the factory in Austria with P+ ammo), this is required by Austrians law.

USA model: all the proof marks mentioned above, except for US instead of AT. Frame has one proof mark (small Georgia with P inside, which stands for Proofed). Not sure if the barrel has any proof marks (small georgia logo).

Finishing/coating: has been different depending on batches. All Glocks come with the same finish now whether they are Austrian or US, they all have the dull not so black finish.

So there is that.

Here's a pic of my Austrian made G17 with the "Made in Austria" on the frame, no Smyrna, this is in USA. Also look at the european proff mark on the frame, slide and barrel. Also Austrian made Glocks come with 3 mags and no lock.
They are the same quality, that i'm not arguing.

With a name like "Pietro Beretta" you certainly have some strong opinions on Glocks. LOL.

The "Tennifer" finish that the Austrian ones have is not the same as the "Melonite" finish used state side. Something to do with Environmental laws in the states. Basically the same process just chemically different.

Definitely wrong.

nice one! this is a very rare to find Glock.
You are correct about the frames, they say MADE IN AUSTRIA and below that it says 'Smyrna', so it looks like the frame is made in USA but stamped made in Austria. Confusing.

They are the same process, just different trade marks. It has to do with licensing, not EPA laws.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferritic_nitrocarburizing

Salt bath ferritic nitrocarburizing is also known as liquid ferritic nitrocarburizing or liquid nitrocarburizing[8] and is also known by the trademarked names Tufftride[2] and Tenifer.[9]

The most simple form of this process is encompassed by the trademarked Melonite process, also known as Meli 1. It is most commonly used on steels, sintered irons, and cast irons to lower friction and improve wear and corrosion resistance.

I guess you'll be changing your Avatar ;)

There actually was a difference between the finish applied to the US and Austrian made Glocks. Austrian made Glocks had the original black Tennifer finish, while US made Glocks had what Glock refer to as Nitration, and appears to be a more greyish in colour. Although the process is essentially the same, as is the final surface hardness, the Tennifer process has some nasty environmental side effects that were not allowed to be used in the US. Glock Austria is now in the process of switching to the same process of Nitration that is used in the US, due to EU environmental concerns.

Everything else is identical in terms of materials, QA, QC, etc. Probably 2/3rds of Glocks are now made, and sold in the US.

Regards.
