hello
i recently got a 6.5x55mm norgie krag rifle.
the usual stock cut down bubba job, but otherwise all ok /original.

my question.......:confused:

how similar in size /shape is the usa 30-40 krag to the norwegian version? trigger guards /barrel bands ect , top handguards

i was thinking to either restore the cut off stock , or buy a new made copy of a military stock to restore it to military looks.

i did seesuch stocks on numrich arms /gunparts coorp site for the usa krags .
(expensive but there are available. ):eek:

Bottom line with a US stock is, it won't work/not feasible. I guess anything can be done, but to what extent do you want to go.

The repro stocks being made on the gunboards Krag site look pretty good. Like anything done by a guy not in a business, may take a while yet before they are completely done. But he has pics of progress to date, and they look like they will meet the needs.

They are asking $500 for the entire rifle. The stock has problems, but at that price, the wood could be repaired. The parts alone, I think, are worth it.

The problem is scarcity here in Canada with complete military Norwegian Krags. They just ain't around.

I haven't located many krags that haven't been butchered this side of the border. They must have been cheaper and more fun to hack on than the Enfields!:(

Did you check the bore on yours to ensure it is worth the investment? All the ones a cgn Pal has wear a rough bore.
 
I had one for two years. Kept looking for a stock as it was a bubba. I eventually sold it because I came to the realization that stocks are not readily available.

Back in the day, the US Krags were plentiful, as were a lot of milsurps. The Krag had the smoothest action going, so a lot of guys liked them for hunting. Historical importance wasn't a concern with the US or Norwegian rifles, so they got "lightened".

The bore on both of my military Norwegian Krags aren't the greatest. I've seen worse and better. However, that wasn't a main concern for myself.. Yup, I'll try shooting them once we are no longer -30, but I didn't buy these ones as primary shooters. I've got others for that.
 
my 1912 krag carbine on a bubba stock sound as described =worn but still a shooter.
just want to un--bubba it if i can.

i contacted the gent in NORWAY who crafts up military style stocks and handguards and may do a buy from him. its his hobby but very nice work.

$390$ plus shipping for a full-stock and wood handguard.

he has other various metal bits /pieces but not any regular ammount or model.
if i get them ill post a photo ect.

anyone got a krag middle barrel band ?? or any idea if a band from another rifle mite look correct /fit ?

$475 by the time it's home. You won't lose money on it. Besides, if you want a full military 1912/16 Kongsberg, there aren't too many options. And it'll look good.
Most of the parts, ie. bands, are unique.
 
just found numrich arms /gun parts has a stock of norwegian krag bands / parts bits its list under us krag with the norwegian stuff noted as such .
i just orfered a few bits for my project /anti bubba work .

the gent is on another similar site to this 1 called gun boards .........hes listed in the section on us /nossk krag ............you could pm him if your on that site .

If one goes to the Gunboards site, I would try to stay away from using "cool" words like "Noskie". It isn't a real word nor abbreviation, and Norwegians think of it as some kind of insulting vernacular. Just an FYI.
 
yes true above was my spelling error but norsk krag is ok ..............or so i was told by the gent i dealt with ........being polite is only polite ............

Yup, Norsk is recognized.

Similar to another foreign national coming to our boards and calling us all Canucks or some other variation, I'm sure it would not bring the best response on a call for assistance.
