Hi all.

I am curious on whether or not 30 carbine .308" 110 grain bullets reloaded into a .308 win case will fire safely. by safely i mean the bullet will not get stuck in my barrel, won't disintegrate, won't cause any unnecessary fouling, etc.

any thoughts and concerns if this can work and suggestions on loads?

the main purpose for this is that 30 carbine bullets are pretty cheap compared to the hornedy or sierra 30 cal bullets. i just want a nice cheap plinking round.

Yes, they will work just fine for short range plinking. The Lyman manual even has data for 110 grain bullets in .308.

the bullets are from HIGGINSON POWDERS INC. check out the price list for 'FRONTIER BULLETS, USED BRASS & MTM' and its their Frontier Bullets Copper plated bullets section.

i haven't actually gotten any yet, i am making sure that they work before i dive in.

Whether they'll cycle an auto, might be another matter. If it's for a manual action, then that doesn't matter in the least obviously. I have heard of, and seen some brands of plated bullets with less than ideal tolerances, 45acp bullets with diameters between .448"-.453". Granted I have no personal experience with Frontier bullets, I'd recommend at least checking to make sure they are within decent tolerances, won't take long, and will certainly help with consistancy.

Right now, I'm using Hornady 110 gr. FMJ .30 Carbine bullets in my Remington 700 Varmint chambered in .308 Win. I've tried a number of pistol powders including Red Dot, Green Dot, Blue Dot, and now Trail Boss.

The most accurate and consistent load I've shot so far is with 11.5 gr. of Trail Boss with a WLR primer, loaded to a 2.05" OAL. My (15) shot groups are approximately 2-2.5 MOA at 100 yds. No idea of the velcoity but it's low. Very little recoil, considerably more quiet than full power loads, and extremely easy on the wallet. What isn't there to like?

I use them in my Stevens 200. I get them from Henry at Budget Shooter supply.

I go with 10.5 grains of Unique and it gives me about 1500 fps. my last time out I had 10 shots in 2" I'm still learning to shoot though so it may be even more accurate than that. I really like it as a nice light load. You can shoot all day, it's really quiet and the recoil is more like a 223. Plus it's way cheaper, not just for the bullet but also for less powder.
