Use A Guncase!!

GP40-2W,
You don't have to have a rifle in the trunk or in a case, legally, when transporting. I don't know what you've been reading. He might have made a mistake dropping his rifle but he didn't break any laws. And like he said, it was proven safe, so how is that unsafe?

Read the regs again, now if the vehicle had no trunk, there is a provision. Clearly there was negligence, as was admitted in the initial post, by the statement that the hands were full of other things before the firearm was picked up. The weapon may have been safe, but the UNSAFE HANDLING of the weapon was clearly admitted to. It all boils down to the Forest Gump Rule "Stupid is as Stupid does" The primary concern of any individual when it comes to handling any firearm is to do it safely. By handling and carrying other items and then attempting to manipulate a firearm in conjunction with the other objects is clearly careless handling of a firearm. To bad for him that buddy dropped it, he got what he deserved. Handle your guns first, and then go about emptying your vehicle of all of the other sh!t, if you fail to see the safety factors of that, then God help us all. Again, Stupid is as Stupid does.

I would never consider taking a rifle out without a case. Not even my old Cooey .22 or Stevens 12g. What, do you throw them in a big pile in the car and let them bang around together?
The thought makes me shudder...

You are the one that apparently needs to read the regulations again. There is nothing in the firearms act that stipulates than non restricted firearms must be carried in a case, or in the trunk. As long as it is not loaded. it can be carried on the back seat, or on the seat next to you. If the firearm is proven to be unloaded, and it isn't being pointed in an unsafe direction, then it isn't being handled in an unsafe manner according to the firearms act. If the rifle is dropped and damaged because you tried to carry too much at once, it may not be smart on your part, but it isn't illegal.

Let me guess, you work as a mall security guard?

Well I hit the range today, with the CZ-527. First day I even wanted to look at it since...

There is a nasty bit of 'road rash' on the end of the muzzle, where the rifle hit the concrete. Looked it over and there's almost nothing else. I'm thinking the second bounce might've been on the rubber end piece of the scope.
There is really no marks on the scope, or stock.

Set up a target at 100 yds. Did not touch paper... aarrgh!

So I did the 25 yard drill. Found where I was hitting right away, a few adjustments and I was back to the 100 yard targets. The scope doesn't seem like anything happened to it.

I made several adjustments, fired at three different targets. All adjustments seemed to result in p.o.i. I was looking for. Banged off about 4, 5-shot groups. Nothing spectacular, which matches my shooting ability... :)

The CZ is ready to go coyote hunting.

Does shooting my .223 semi with a laser bore sigh in the barrel make me an idiot or a inexperienced ,virgin noob?:) Put a 1/4 split in the barrel and flash hider .

Just ignored my wife last Sunday. It's not my fault that you can't hear a phone while wearing ear protection on a hot range.

I guess road hunters legally have to keep their rifles in the trunk. That makes perfect sense. (end sarcasm).

The best one I've seen was my wife's uncle pulling a moose into a trailer with his quad. He had his gun boot on the front of the quad and it got pulled up against the side of the trailer. Bent the barrel and crushed the scope. Good thing he'd already filled his tag!

Exactly....the law reads quite plainly for those of us that "need to go back to school":
Transporting Firearms Safely

Non-restricted firearms

Non-restricted firearms must be unloaded during transportation.
<----that's the end of it. There's a period there.

I strap my to the roof rack with bungee cords and some colourful streamers for added flair, still perfectly legal. Probably not the best idea, but legal it is. :)

Someone i know said "dont worry if you scratch it....it will remind you of a pleasant memory" Unfortunately, this is not one of those.

Everyone has done something similar, from the miniscule to the horrible. Just check out the EE, with all the ads with safe marks. Might be time for a recrown, which are very cheap....or a home blueing touch up.
