I may be trading a 1911 for my friends 1st Gen Glock 17. I know the gun has seen a lot of rounds, as it was used in competition before he got it. He heard the barrel may have even been replaced before he got it, but he's not sure. That said I've seen him shoot the gun and it works great. It has never had any issues that weren't related to poor reloads.

The gun has aftermarket sites that glow, a mag well, a 3.5lb connector and the mag release was replaced recently as the old one was worn.

Aside from making sure the rifling is strong, what should I look for when evaluating this high millage gun? Thanks

well you can look at multiple stuff, make sure the barrel is in good condition (rifling), look for un-usual wear marks on the frame ( best way to see this would be to detail strip) or cracks on either the frame or slide. Check the locking block, striker, mag release and extractor to see if there in top shape. The fun part about glock is that new parts are really cheap, look up glockparts.com, best company ever and shipping is only $3.
That's my 2 cents

Questar has some, they don't really cater to small orders though. CAFRM as well, but I hear its hard to get a response from them.

I have ordered all my parts from glockparts.com Never had a problem, fast shipping, reasonable prices, and the dollar is doing okay right now.

Trade a 1911 for a glock? What the hell is wrong with you?

Nobody would trade any 1911 for a glock.

Sooner or later I figured someone would chime in with that. The 1911 is nice, but It's not a name brand. Ive got a high end 1911 I'll never part with. I want a glock and I probably wouldnt get enough out of the 1911 to buy a glock in the configuratiuon I want. So to look at it logicaly I get the gun I want, and seeing as I'm trading with my best friend/shooting buddy I can shoot the 1911 whenever I want.

Absolutely...you should do what you want!

I love 1911's too...but Glock's are magnificent pistols. I had a 1st Generation Glock 17. It is "the one that started it all..." w/ the new generation pistols. I think this pistol is a modern classic. :)

My advice is to get it and shoot it, then see what it needs.

Jeff/1911.

So I had the chance to examine the gun. It is actually a 2nd gen. It's does have a 3.5#connecter, a mag well and the sights are tru-glo tritium.

The numbers don't match but the barrel has lots of rifiling and the slide is in good shape. The frame had a lot of goo and scuffs from grit tape and other grip "enhancements" being removed. It cleaned up nice with some elbow grease. I completly disassembled the gun and all it really needs is a trigger mech pin and a recoil spring, not bad considering the age. I think if I get it I'll change the springs just for the piece of mind and also for fun.
