Used gun mark up

I like it when it's a case of "I got you want" and not the other way around. The other way happens to me much too often! Supply & Demand people, that's the name of the game.

Ive seen a Rem SPS /Nikon scope used for over $1000 or a Sendero for 1K and can't believe some of the used prices but then think if the big gun companies are uping price by 20-40% why shouldnt the individual??

A prospective buyer who #####es about pricing is displaying plain old GREED just like a seller who asks too much. I don't have time for either one.

Of course new gun prices and avialability affect used gun prices.

Seller can set any price he wants - it's his property. Buyer can pay it or walk away. End of story.

Would you sell your house for $50,000 less than your neighbor because you bought it when prices were lower? Free market gents, if you don't like it, China is always looking for cheap labour, maybe even at the norinco:puke: plant.
 
The way I look at it - if the used gun, or even one bought and never been used is not in any way better than brand new - it gotta cost LESS.

If a gun is used or was bought and had work done to make it better than brand new, it MAY cost same or MORE than brand new gun.

I'm not trying to say some sellers are not gouging the prices or BS potencial buyers.

What I'm trying to say is - better stuff costs more..

Totally agree, I don't see posts about how much someone scored a low ball price.

"I totally screwed the guy over, he had no idea it was worn a $1000 more"...

Yeah, CeeZer and Taffman pretty much said it simply. Aside from that it also depends on what the market will bear. I dont get it either. Surely these guys are not stupid and check to see what places like WS or Russells sell for new. But then I have talked to a lot of the old farts I meet there selling ####e and they dont have an emai address or a computer so maybe they are a bunch of Luddites and really just have absolutely no idea of what they are doing and going purely by hearsay. I mean-cmon man-if you are planning to sell something you are a bonehead if you do not look around first to see what others sell the same stuff for. Then again if it just a hobby and they dont really care if they sell something then that would explain it a little better. 50 year old Weaver rimfire scopes for $50?? I can buy a new Bushnell 4x for the same price and way better glass. I have one locally and go fairly often but mostly am looking for something specific but yes, it still is fun to look. Do any of you actually call the guys on their pricing? Do you tell them they are out to lunch? I do cuz I dont care-if I dont find what I want I will post it on the EE and get a better deal anyways usually. Had much luck with that.
 
A good deal is when both the seller and the buyer are happy, simple as that.
Market conditions dictate how much things are going to sell for. Remember a few years back when everyone on this site had to have a Norinco M-14? Marstar could have sold them for 25% more if they could get any and people would have paid it. There are cycles to this game, we may just be at a high point in the pricing cycle.
 
If I see that someone has marked up the price due to the recent hike by the manufacturers, I just don't buy it. At least with a new Item, if it's defective you can return it.
