You folks who sell used firearms on the equipment exchange do they really sell for the same price as new like most seem to ask? I am not trying to offend anyone just wondering if they hold their value that well

This thread is pretty well covered on a weekly basis, and always ends up in it being locked.

Short story: It is a free market, and people can ask whatever they choose for their items.

Depending on where the person bought it, they may have paid more for it, and now the market has dropped on that particular item and theyre not willing to take that big of a loss. Example would be some of the Colt ARs that were going for 2K+ a few months ago, and then IRUNGUNS came into the picture and brought them in for around 1K.

Another would be keeping the wife happy by listing them, but at a price that wont sell, to say "look honey, I am trying! Just no interest".

Another would be high hopes to get the most money back out of it.

Another would be people thinking their time to break it in for you costs money too.

And an unlimited amount of other options... But as a whole, a lot of firearms do hold value, and a lot of them actually gain value too.

I made a post a few months ago with the same question. And got pretty much the same answer. All I can offer here is....

Here's a question for ya...

Do you save money if someone purchases a firearm, fires 1 round, then tries to sell it for retail minus the tax? Is the asking price same as new or does 13% off constitute a reduction in price? What if someone was to offer free accessories, do they have no value?

At the end of the day it's what someone's willing to pay, not what you think they should sell it for.

Good luck!

Well priced guns sell fast around here.
Overpriced and common guns not so much...... overpriced and not so common......better chance.
Not so common, lightly used and at or a bit less then full retail.......maybe a couple of bumps.
Rare, lightly used and more then they went for at some point in the past...... sure it happens.

yeah I was all excited about the getting access to EE... until I saw the prices.. so I went back to buying new. Costs me almost the same. I'm already spending $100's (or $1000's in some cases) why do I care for $20-30 less for a used one? Just saying......

It all depends on who is in the market and what they are prepared to pay. Everyone always brings up what stuff
went for last time. But, a lot of the people weren't buyers then. So supply and demand rules the market price of
everything.

I will weigh in with some general guidelines.

A Glock 22 is worth $500 at best, I don't care how few rounds you fired, its used and in low demand and high supply.

An AR rifle or lower marked "Law Enforcement Only" is not worth a penny more than one that is not marked. No one cares, stop trying to market stupid roll marks as value added features.

Seeing as a stock Colt AR can be had for a bit over $1000 new, your no tier low end USED and bastardized/customized rifle isn't worth more than the new price of a Colt. It sucks, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Selling an AR upper without BCG and charge handle is plain dumb.

a "rare" firearm is worth less to those who actually shoot as opposed to collect firearms. In addition, if its rare because it sucked and is of poor quality then its worth nothing. If its rare because it has low numbers or is out of production and is a quality and sought after make/model, its worth more than normal, but not mid to high four figures.

A customized firearm has been modified, not necessarily "upgraded". If your modification includes anything from NcStar/Leapers/UTG it is the opposite of an upgrade.

Regardless of whether or not you shot the firearm, it is still USED. You bought it, you want to recover as much of your investment as possible. That value is not retail less the tax, nor is it $10 less than retail and tax, and its definitely not more than retail. I don't care what YOU paid for it. Market value is dictated on availability and lowest available price. Paying more for your item because you are either incapable or too lazy to shop around is not my concern. At the very least you should search the first 5 pages of current EE ads to determine what the going price for your particular item should be if you expect to sell it.

You cannot collect tax legally without a registered GST/HST number, so stop asking for full retail and the tax. You paid it, you eat it.

Pictures sell products, no pics no sale. The vast majority of SOLD! ads were accompanied by pictures.

Accessories CAN add value, if they're accessories that are in demand or desired. Cheap sh*t holsters, lights, sights, slings or other useless junk do not add value. Furthermore, failing to separate said items from the overall "package" will reduce your chances for a sale.

Finally.... A USED Ruger 10/22 is worth no more than $300 shipped. New 10/22's can be had for $279 all day long.
