Hey everyone
I'm looking for a rifle that will be capable of shooting out to 1,000 yards, but can also double as a hunting rifle. I've narrowed it down somewhat in terms of caliber, and I think either .308, .338, or 6.5-284 is what I want. Does anyone have a set-up of one of these calibers and has been thinking of selling it? Also, what are some other things to keep in mind when looking for a rifle like this?
Also, any chance that someone has something like this in left hand?
Thanks a lot

For target shooting (or in your case, if the majority of your shooting will be target shooting), a .308 is usually a better choice than a 6.5-.284, and a bigger calibre (e.g. .338, or 7mm Rem Mag etc) are worse choices.

I would suggest finding a good used .308 target rifle would be your best bet. Not only will it be good for both of the tasks you describe, it will have (by far!) the shortest learning curve; for example lots of people can tell you known-good loads to use, which will save you many hours of load development. By the time a .308 rifle starts to hold you back or get boring, you'll know more than enough to decide for yourself what else you would like to buy.

I have to agree with Daniel on the 308 ,good to 1000 and easy to load for .

Now on the other hand you didn't tell us what you want to hunt with it but if it is deer and moose go 308 if you want to hunt sheep in the mountains well .......go 6.5 284.

ok, .308 is sounding tempting. Coyote, I live in southern manitoba, so there are no mountains for a long long ways. Deer hunting is mainly what I would be shooting when huting.
