Used M14s Purchase

Excellent deal. Just make sure it has the scope mount "hump" on the left side of the receiver. Only if you want to scope it in the future of course :p

Number of rounds through the barrel is not too important since the barrel has chrome lining and should be good for about 15,000 rounds or so :D

again with the headspace thing- PEOPLE READ THE STICKY- there is NO PROBLEM WITH THE NEW NORCS- the information you're getting is at least 10 years old and exists on a HIT AND MISS BASIS on only those old rifles- i have one and it's fine
I have a Norc from the last Marstar shipment with terrible headspace - plenty of slop to be seen with the naked eye. Not terrible to the point of being a problem though, just hard on brass.

BTW - Which sticky?

Simple: if there's a bump on the left side of the receiver with a threaded hole, that's it, and many polytech's were blued not parkerized and some had dummy flash hiders, easy spot. Check the reciever markings for further info, hand electro pencilled is older, machine done newer, same goes for M305 vs M14S markings.

Sorry about not reading the stickies T-star. My comment stems from what I heard the salesman at P&D say a couple months ago. They sell the Norcs there and they are still checking them so far as I know.

Not trying to stir up a fight here...but my sources in the trade are telling me that it is still worth checking just as a formality. I trust those guys at P&D on all matters gun related, they have not steered me wrong yet. It never hurts to indulge your paranoia from time to time.

Just my two cents, your mileage may vary.

I'm a 20 year old film student and I have 8 guns..

I'm a bit of an impulsive buyer..
All my guns are "keepers" for now..
I mean..
"THIS ONE AINT MY FAVOURITE!!" *SELL*

I don't see the point for a few hundred bucks..

Get the used one, then get a new one.
then sell the one you like least. or keep both and make one a sniper and one a bush.

What the heck is a scope mount hump? And how do I identify a polytech? Kick my ass if I should have read the stickies(??) or something.

cheers
ok for those of you that don't know, on the left side with the rifle pointed downrange, there should be a horizontzal groove, just forward of the bolt release there's a tapped hole and a vertical groove above it- this is your scope"hump" that he's talking about- now on certain old ( and possibly new norcs as i haven't seen them) the top of that vertical groove has been ground away at a 15 degree angle- which makes it impossible to scope them unless 1) you're very inventive and add cold weld or something to bring the top back to true and groove that- i have no idea how well that will work
2- you get one of the OLD B-SQUARE mounts that has the set screws and doesn't use the grooves for mounting- you can set the screws to compensate for the pitch in the mount that angle indues- that's what i did- i know b-sqares are the **** , but they're the only ones that use that system
you can tell a poly because that's what it says, not norinco or nothing- mine just has the star - made in p.r.o.c.- polytech, either on the left side, or one of the early ones may be marked on the heel- there aren't that many around

MAKE ONE A SNIPER AND one a bush?- on a studen'ts budget?- - CAN'T BE DONE

Hi everyone, I am looking too for a M14, and a think about geting a Springfield Armory one, but with all I read, the norinco seem to be a good choice. I had heard so many bad gossip about them that I thought they were crap or some kind of klunker. Are they worth the money or shall I keep putting money in the bank and wait to get a Springfield?

thank you

oh there's a few g3 and fn, galil, and REAL m14 around, but most are 12(3) or 12(5) thanks to kim campbell and are safe queens right at the moment- again, due to the previous idiots and their minions that misinterpeted the provision regarding prohibs- we ALL REMEMBER THAT LETTER- so the only non prohib/restricted game is the norc/poly m14 clone and the springy m1a in its various forms- unless you buy a custom or have one built
