Used market pricing??

Hello all. I am in the market for an entry level/mid lever hunting scope for a Remington 760, budget up to $300. I'm noticing that the older (5-15 year) scopes seem to hold their value as compared to their original new selling price.

My thought to buying used was that I could get a better, even if it is older, optic for the same price as a new lower end optic. That doesn't seem to be the case.

This is in no way a jab at those selling their stuff on EE! Just wondering if my logic is out to lunch and I should just buy a new scope at that price and it will equal the quality of the used for the same $$

Of course there is, but guys have been low balling my very fair and I mean very fair current offering in the EE @ $500 for a VXII A/O.
You just have to find the right offering at the right time and snap it up.
It is the start of Gun Show season and a few guys are looking to fill out their tables by buying low and charge inflated prices.
Not all sellers mind you but a certain number who are reselling to supplement their pensions.
$300 and having access to the EE not to mention looking at the Optics sub forum and you just might find the deal you are looking for.
Someone has a RedFeild and a Leupold in the EE, but I do not recall the members name or prices, but thye just might fit your bill .
Get access to the EE or scour that other web site who shall remain nameless post gun...

It is the same old question .
Which is a better car...Ford , Chevy or Dodge (insert other brands here)?
It is only oneself that can decide what is the Better Consumer Product for them.
Problem for you is to find that $300 Leupold before somebody else scoops it up.

I am very happy with the new Vortex Crossfire HD line of "entry level" optics. I believe I paid $299 plus tax (new)for the 2-7x32 Illuminated dead hold BDC model. Much better glass than the Crossfire II that the HD line replaces. as good or better than my Leupold at 2/3rds the price.
 
Burris Fullfield 2-8x. Retail $300 for the illuminated version. Less for the non. Excellent optic for the $ and perfect for a lever gun.

Good thing Vortex has a good warranty department, you're going to need it.......:)

i have a vari x 11 3x9x40 ao 400.$$ a few scratches on the outside of the tube no dents on the tube nice scope i will used leupold befor anything else l have many 20-35 year old leupold don rifles best scopes ever
i just sold a very clean 2x7 x33 for 350 shipped on EE
so they are out there just look around
 
Just a suggestion- Have a look at Intersurplus scopes. See Banner at top of page- I just bought one from Denis. He's great to deal with. There is quite a selection too!

Dam, how did I miss that one👍🏻
I just dropped off a couple of consignment items this morning downtown.
One of which is a Leupold scope.
The market is soft right now imo, but the shop has a broader exposure than what I am used to dealing with.
Consumer items and consumers more so are a fickle bunch.
I buy what I am comfortable with and can appreciate other high end gear , I just can not justify buying it .
Sirloin stead and garlic mashed is good enough for me and no name bush lattes suit me fine too.
Tight Groups All, the gopher patches will be teaming with activity soon, very soon.

Yes, a good used Leupold is likely the best choice. Hard to beat that iron clad warranty.

However, don't overlook the Bushnell Elite or older Bausch & Lomb Elite series scopes, for general value, either.

I just sold a Vortex 3-9x40mm Crossfire for $150.00.
I had it marked at $180.00, however nobody wanted it….:)

You did well Grasshopper!….:)
