Hi folks,

I have a used McMillan M40A1 stock for 700 SA on the EE right now. Its in very good-excellent shape, has aluminum pillars, flush cups and has been bedded. I am asking $425 and getting lots of interest but no takers. Considering it takes the better part of 6 months to get one of these new, I figured it would be sold by end of week one, instead I am now into week 2. Am I off on the pricing? I figured this was fair considering the scarcity, wait times and general demand for these.

Thoughts appreciated,

Patrick

Price seems on par, it is the color I think is the part no one is interested in. You will find someone that likes the different stuff that will take it eventually. Of course a price drop will make people think about living with the odd color. Just my .02 c

I looked at it and liked the colour but disliked that I would have to remove all you bedding before bedding it to my action and barrel. Not that I have any cash right now anyway.

I bought this stock bedded already and it fit my LTR perfectly, nothing else was needed

Not sure how thorough it needed to be checked. Fit was very tight, but it sits evenly, no wobble at all and locks down great. Recoil lug is very snug, no play at all. I am sure someone could fine tune, but this is unnecessary in my view.

I'm in the market for a M40A1 stock for a short action. It's the bedding that turned me off, just a added step before I re-bed it, the color didn't really do it for me either. You asked so don't get upset if you get answers. I'm actually still considering it.

What a great way to get your stuff noticed on the EE...I really hope you haven't started a trend. That being said, drop the price in 50.00 increments until it sells. I mean come on, what do you respond to when your on the fence about a purchase.

I think the fact that its already bedded is a bit of a turn off for some, obviously not for some apparently but if it was not a big issue I think it would have been gone by now. I also think the stock is not as popular as an A-5 or A-3. Also why are you selling it, I think people like to know the reason why.

Bedding is one of the issues. Another is the attraction of a McMillan (or Manners) is the customization. Why pay 500-600$ for a stock that is not exactly what you want? After all, four months is a long wait, but not that long when it comes to firearms- As anyone seriously involved in the sport/hobby/industry knows.

... On that note, another reason: People are cheap. Point blank. I've sold five (?) McMillan's now and what some people have offered prove they have no clue other than, "A McMillan is what I need for my tactical rifle to be a tactical rifle." There. I said it.

Typical for gunnutz! When some one is selling(not you in this case) they want 104% of retail+shipping... When they are buying 25% of retail in LNIB condition is too much and they want you to pay for the shipping. Don't get me started...I guess you already did.

Same here, I had a look, but I don't want to have to file away your bed job, and then do it over. Because realistically that is what is required here.
