Went out today to shoot some more gophers. I lost and destroyed the others I have been shooting. I finally have pictures.

It was a tough hunt but I really enjoyed it.

We had a guy at deer camp that puked the first time he gutted a deer.

Amazing what damage a high velocity bullet will do.

On the other hand, ever hit a dirt pig with a 12 guage slug at ten feet?

The pic, if I had one, wouldn't do it justice. There was hide, and there was a sheen of red over the grass behind. That was all.

My favorite are Winchesters 150 grain HP load for the .30-30. A head, an ass and a joining piece of spinal cord holding them together as it helocopters 20 feet the other way.

I have not used a slug but #2 heavy load goes across the field like the " Broom of God " I sent a half a dozen into the break dance spin with one sweep.

I love shooting gophers, but posting pics like that is kinda sick.

Either way - I've been waiting for them to come out around Calgary - my prime grounds are gonna get pummelled this spring!

I almost want to wait til all the little guys come out - more reactive targets than just the early males!

Manitoba gophers are vicious creatures. I would recommend nothing less than a 30 cal with a backup 3" 12 gauge to be carried at all times when in any fields or pastures.
