Used Norcs to avoid

GTA,
When the slow boat arrives I expect many people will sell their old norcs to but newer ones. Being a very poor student that just finished a 4 year course and up to my eyebrows in debt, I plan on trying to pick up one on the cheap.

Which Norcs should not be bought used, as I heard that some versions don't hold up as well as other models.
Scott.

PS. If this has been brought up before, sorry, I couldn't find anything on used norcs in the search.

The only models that seem to be problematic are some of the aluminum framed sig copies. As far as I know, the numbers of broken guns were actually low, and Marstar made good on the ones sourced from them.

Seeing as CGNer's don't suffer in silence, I tend to think the problem was limited to a few guns only.

As for the shotguns, my HP9-1 had a poorly made ejector and spring which had to be replaced with a Remington part. I have heard the Ithica clone have some extraction problems after a time.

Seriously consider the NP29, the 1911 9mm single stack. I've gone BACK to another NP29 and also another Norc 1911 .45 ACP. They are the backbone of my collection. Okay, so I had to take a stone to the sharp edges, that's about a steady hours' work, but I did not mind since I'm on crutches while convalescing after surgery. The work on the Nork was quite welcome. LOL

Cheers and good luck with the handgun addiction.

There were 3 or 4 SIG copies that were posted on here with frame failures. The way I look at it is there really are only a couple hundred of these floating around in Canada.
One Springfield Inc M14 blows up out of a couple hundred thousand and they get a bad rep, 3 or 4 Norks in a few hundred bust up should put people off these models for good.:)
The 9mm 1911 I have is a nice gun and definately a keeper.

I was one of them that suffered a failure at 2,000 rds. It’s hard to say if the problem is systemic to the model or just some quality issues. The internet has a way of making a problem appear bigger than it often is. I would expect that if the problem is systemic that we will start seeing more failures by now.

However I would personally for the next year only buy the NP-22/34 from a dealer that backs their products. I certainly haven’t given up on Norks and own 3 pistols from them, 1911A1C, NZ-85b & M93, I like all of them.

If you are going to buy the NP 22/34 used, make sure the price difference is worth it.

Norinco also produced another gun called the NP-18 (?) a copy of the FEG clone of the BHP, most seem not to be happy guns and took a fair bit to work.

If you are poor, than the Torks in 9mm seem to be a very good deal or even the improved M77 (without the funky cocking system)

I see Norinco makes a another copy of the BHP which looks nicer than the previous version, that could be a very nice pistol and I wonder why they don’t bring them here?

Scott, to buy a new one you will have a chance to get a lemon. If you buy a used one from some one you know and have a chance to try it out before you pay for, then you get a 100% function gun. Like other said a NZ 85 or the NP 29 to be a good choice.

Is that Tork that fires 7.62x25 any good? Because the guns cheap and the ammo's cheap and I'm poor as hell and want a pistol. So if anyone has tried that one out give me a shout.

If you watch you can pick up a used CZ 75B for about the same money as a CZ Norinco CLone and you will have the real deal. Not knocking Norks but the CZ used is a great buy or can be if the price is right. The NP-29 is a great gun and shot as well as my STI Trojan for 1/3 the price. Sold it to fund a Tanfoglio.

I hear you about the used Norcs going for more than the Marstar "New" prices. LOL

The honest truth is that these slowboat from China sourced bargains are gonna be a finite acquisition, mind you so are most of the deals like the $ 399 M14's which I tell people to buy TWO instead of ONE.

I don't mind paying a bit more for a used NP29 because they are still hard to get hold of and they are the best bargain for any shooter on a budget (I've got a kid heading to Univ this fall). Who knows if Marstar will come through on the great Norinco deals... if they do, I'm snaggin' another NP29, just because I can for $ 329, also for zhits and giggles. LOL

Following the laws of supply and demand, the Norc values are right there no matter how we slice it. With that, I'm telling handgunners not to get ONE NP29, but get TWO of them, just like my advice with the M14's.

My wife (of 22 years) often reminds me that I've been wrong about certain issues. With the $ 399 M14's, I've been proven right for the past 3 years, especially when I hooked Skullboy on the M14 addiction. Now with the NP29's, history is gonna repeat itself.

Cheers all,
Barney

I've been shooting the #### out of my np22 for over a year, after maybe 13K of factory 9mm, the slide rails on the frame cracked and broke off. I had a warranty replacement in my safe from DARK International within a week (Rodger (RK from DARK) is my source of all things Norinco and gunsmithing, I don't let anyone else touch my guns ;) ).

Rodger told me that to try and re=enforce the slide raids, metal inserts will be added to the NP22 design in the near future, but they aren't there yet.

The only problems I ever had with these guns were user problems, hehe.

don't forget, SIG had several problems with their early 226's leading to recalls, and a factory redsign in the 80's. Their were some real deals in the 80's from several dealers in western Canada on 226's. They were sold as used police demo's, and nothing was said about the design changes.

Does anyone know the serial # when the improved model came into being?

I have noticed that some used Norinco's sell for more than news Norinco's from Marstar. This really boggles my mind.
I guess that P.T. Barnum was right after all.

Not really... Usually, most Norc 1911's get after market add-ons once acquired. It doesn't take long to rack up another $100 or so with fancy grips, adjustable triggers, drop-in beaver-tails, flat mainspring housings, etc. And don't for get the Schmarstar pistols only come with one magazine. Four hi-quality after-marked mags are going to run you at least $100, too.

Personally, if I was going to start with a new Norc I'd get a 'tuned one' direct from Armco. Easily worth the extra money...

Well most used CZ75 sell at around 550$... when a brand new can be bought for 629$ (587.85$+tx). If you can find a used CZ at ~350$ just tell me next time :D

Personally, I find the Nork Tok to be a fun gun. Trigger is poor, but it functions reliably and makes a big blast with that ammo. Takedown is easy, which is good because the Czech cheap 7.62x25 is corrosive. Go for it - find a 9mm barrel with it as well to give yourself more flexibility.

Icefire

One on the exchange forum not long ago went for $400. I have already got an 85 and a Tanfoglio on order. Just keep an eye out, deal do come along.
