Please know that as a Canadian, I am a total firearms enthusiast.

I must say however that lately on CGN the listed prices for used restricted firearms - handguns in particular - are very often set quite laughably high. Guys - consider the current political context!

We all will sadly, very likely have to endure a handgun ban and other restricted rifle limitations with possible confiscation in the near future, and yet some of you sellers expect to get close to what you paid years ago? I’m sorry, but let’s face it you won’t and to expect so is naïve and just ridiculous!

Some sellers seem to stubbornly ignore this reality and post what they subjectively think their item is worth (to them) - based upon their reality of 2 - 5 years ago. Then when they find their item doesn’t sell, they repeatedly bump the item again and again, sometimes for months. Give your head a shake! The market says that your price is obviously , waaay too high.

Any buyer considering an offer on your used handguns or restricted rifles for that matter, does so knowing that Trudeau may soon take away from them their ownership of such items. Or otherwise limit their ownership. That truth severely affects current market value of your restricted item. Asking price should reflect this. Otherwise your post is doomed to being ignored, which I often see leads to laughable multiple “back to the top” bumps. Sometimes I’ve seen such bumps occur over and over again - for months.

Face it: if something posted doesn’t sell within 2 weeks, then clearly your price is completely out of line. What you think it’s worth to you is irrelevant. Price “firm” is irrelevant. What the potential buyers in the current market think its worth to them - in the current climate - is what counts, and that’s what determines a fair selling price. Like it or not.

Today, for a quick sale your restricted is probably only worth - at best - 70% of what it may have been worth before Trudeaus's gun ban stated intentions. And as we get closer to that bad reality, value (ie: prices) must drop further. I for one would much rather get 70% of what I think my restricted is worth than have it sit unsold in my safe, waiting until inevitably the Mounties come to take it from me, and I get nothing. To think that the future bodes otherwise is to blindly ignore reality.

I urge us all to set our used restricted firearms selling prices at levels which reflect the current political reality, so that new buyers can experience these fine firearms now, while they still can, and sellers can recover at least some of their investment.

No, it’s not “fair”, but that is the current political reality, and I fear, soon to be “the law”.

Deal with it.

Cheers,

Canadaduck.

It seems you feel entitled to set pricing for others property. If someone's price is out of line that's their problem. I highly doubt the I KNOW WHAT I GOT type of seller is going to be swayed by anyone else's opinion and if they haven't taken the hint after months of bumping an ad. Also this notion of encouraging panic selling is pretty laughable, I'm sure it'll go far...

Don't like the price? Don't buy!

Deal with it.

Well thanks for the helpful lecture.

How about you price yours where you want, and others will do the same. As for all your hand wringing and pearl clutching about the current and future 'climate' for ownership in Canada of restricted firearms, maybe chill. It's way too early to spook.

Prices should be high right now, demand is very high. Most of us are spending more than we probably should so we can get as much as we can before it’s too late! Once they are banned they are not worthless! More like priceless! Part of that sometimes means selling other guns to satisfy the nagging conscience of over spending. But at the same time who wants to sell a gun you may never be able to get again so I’m not giving it away. It’s all very confusing.

So your telling everyone how to price their firearms? Why don't you start out...what are you selling? OR Currently in the market are you?

Prices on CGN are what they are. If they are above what you think you will pay, move on.

Your comment about what a particular firearm is worth "based upon their reality of 2 - 5 years ago". I recently noticed the current price of one firearm I purchased 3 years ago is $234 higher (or 32% higher) today than what I paid. Shocked me to see it that much higher than what I paid; things go up I guess. Selling for exactly what I paid would equal a 32% decrease over todays (new) market pricing. Still, I won't sell it, at what I paid, at a lower price or higher price.

The OP is a total idiot, what gives him the right to dictate what people sell their owns items for. Just because he wants to buy something that someone else is selling and he wants to dictate price. Move on a find something else and get a life

I am going to sell my Remington 870 for $400.00 is that ok with you? Please let me know asap as I do not want to upset you

Prices on EE often seem optimistic. Its a combination of dilution for some and buffering against an inevitable lowball or expected price reduction for others. It sorts itself out soon enough.

I would say that some of the unusual stuff has a very specific market so not unreasonable to sit for a while to maximize potential buyer exposure.

Curious to see how the handgun market changes over time. On the one hand, I can see it diving as concerns of broader bans persist. On the other, I can see it picking up as those interested in ARs etc, look to new firearm interests.

OP, ETM $1000 to me right now so that I could begin the transfer of my custom, one of a kind, unfired, never been dropped, all OEM $3000 AR15. Send the money now so you could begin enjoying my AR or do you just enjoy flapping your gums!?!

I won't presume to advise anyone on how to price restricteds right now. But it is interesting that Justin's plans don't seem to have brought handgun prices down here on EE. Economics 101 tells us that uncertainty should get priced into a market. If sales have slowed, presumably that's the reason. Those of us who live in cities that will likely ban handguns if Justin gives them that power have a disincentive to buy anything now -- unless you think there might be grandfathering, in which case it makes sense to get em while you can. I added a 1911 (in 45) to my safe earlier this year for just that reason. But if Justin just lets the local council ban all handguns, I guess I'll be transferring all my handguns to my trusted nephew up country, gratis. He'lll look after them, and transfer them back to me if and when that becomes possible. I suspect that many others on CGN are lucky enough to live in places where local government isn't expected to jump at the chance to signal their virtues by banning our sport --like, say, anywhere in Alberta. But if you live in Vancouver or its inner suburbs (like me), or Toronto, it's not looking good. Tell me again, Justin, how target pistols like mine can be so dangerous they just gotta be banned on one side of the street, but they're just fine on the other, according to the local wisdom of whatever amateur politicians got into power via an election where maybe 40% of the voters turned out. Meanwhile the Toronto gangbangers will keep on killing each other and the occasional bystander, day in and day out, with Glocks from the USA. Like that rapper killed last week, whose album was called "Made in Austria". Neither the CBC nor the Globe picked up on the obvious cultural reference there. I'm sure nobody on CGN missed it.

Apparently Canadaduck The Apparent EXPERT has spoken - you ALL need to Heed his advice ! f:P: RJ

I think he is a Liberal, trying to take away one more of our freedoms; to value what we own as we see fit... or wants to get something cheaper than he deserves.

Let's keep the prices up and set a precedent so when the other liberals come for our guns, we might at least get "fair market value" for them. FFS.

Wow Big Brother dictating to us what our selling price should be - if you do not like the price do not buy. Me I play classical music in a continuous loop in the safe my guns feel happier afterwards and therefore are worth more.
