Ok, I hope somebody here can help me out.
I just bought a used 700P in .300 Win. Mag. from Epps. It's in great condition and the bore looks good.
So, I called Remington with the serial number the other day to see what they could tell me. He says it's a 2008 model 700 Police. Next, he says it's listed in the Big Green's system as being chambered in .243.
On http://www.RemingtonLE.com, that caliber isn't listed. Then again, neither are .338 Laupua nor 6.8 Rem.
The rifle doesn't look like it was rebarreled, so I am going to chalk this one up to being a data entry error. Unless anyone else has a better idea....
For all I know, the former owner is a forum member here.

I think Rem made a mistake. Do they even make the 700P in a Long Action?

Also, .243 is SA - so highly unlikely it was originally chambered in that. Again, do they even make a 700P in .243?

Odd - very odd. Is the serial number system different for models exported out of the USA?

Remington barrels all have REMINGTON stamped in them as well as their place of manufacture and their caliber. If it was re-barreled in 300WM, they would have had to change the bolt, and it would have to have been a short action... You can't make a short action longer. In a nutshell, the info you got from Remington is wrong.
