Used Remington 870 14 Inch Barrels, $149.95

How much difference does the modified choke version make?
Good question since there is really no info on the net.
I remember when I first saw an 870P 14" with fixed Mod choke in the late 80's, early 90's.
I asked the dealer about the different choke and he said some Police forces wanted a Mod choke due to their testing of different loads of buckshot. They wanted a tighter pattern and less stray pellets in an urban environment.
Whether the Mod choke compared to IC or Cyl bore which is seen on all Police models of various barrel lengths will produce tighter patterns with 00 Buck remains to be seen as I cannot find any data. In my case, I like the Mod choke so I can bird hunt also with the 14" barrel. This is my main gun in the bush where I walk every day and bears are present.

Thanks .... yes ... everything I’ve read on this site suggests the difference really is for birdshot.

Did the same with mine too with BC Super Blue and it came out great. The front bead is chewed up, but I'll be putting on a Scattergun Tech front sight in any case.
Mine is a Mod choke and measures .715" ID. Is that normal ID for fixed Mod chokes in these barrels?

They will fit most. They won't work on the 870's with the 6 round one piece mag tube.

They also don’t fit left handed shotguns. I recently bought a left handed Remington 870 with a 28” barrel. I wanted a shorter one and so I bought one of these barrels. However, half the ejection port is covered when the barrel is installed. I didn’t realize barrels were also left and right handed... another curse of being left handed. When I called I don’t remember if I said it was a lefty. Rookie mistake.
