Used up a tag for being humane

Sad damn story... but good on you for doing the right thing. It will come back to you... it always does. Damn those irresponsible #######s who shot it. Makes me so mad.

I don't know how your laws work... can I buy you another tag? If so, let me know. I'll EMT the cost.

That's a great thing to do, you deserve recognition as a true sportsman.

The person that did that should be shot in the ass with something not powerful enough to kill him, then left in the woods to fend for himself.

No worries. I've already purchased my second back bear tag anyways and will hopefully be going out the day after tomorrow to try for a bigger bear.

There was a 12 year old kid with us who had never been hunting before and this happened during his first trip so we decided to butcher the bear and give the kid all the meat from this bear to the kid to enjoy.

that gets a stand up and salute! You sir, are a stand up guy. The world needs more sportsmen like you.

You sir, are a true hunter. Anytime you or your partner are in the Ottawa/Gatinau are let me know, your choice of deer, caribou or moose steaks on the BBQ with all the beer you can drink.

x2 what Neo said.

I would talk to the Wildlife Officer and show him the bear and the hide and explain the story. They may issue you another tag.

My buddy took a bull moose a few years back. When dressing out the bull , we noticed his hind leg on one side felt soft at the knee...seemed broken. When we got back to camp and began skinning the bull out we got an aweful smell and seen green around the knee, and also a small bullet hole in the bone and hide (22lr sized).

We went to the butcher, butcher said the meat was tainted and unsuitable for consumption. We talked to FW witht he butcher also, and FW issued a new tag. Only bad thing was there was only 10 days left inthe calling season and we already had our tripo and days off. We tried to get the late-November season tag but no go. Didnt make sense but oh well.

Well we got the bear butchered for a whole 6lbs of meat....

But the kid couldn't wait to get it home!

And now for the part where everyone will probably start saying BS, the kid's step dad is paralyzed from the waist down so we've been taking him out hunting with his step son. We're going out again tomorrow.

Well done Drache, your actions are a credit and an example to us all.

I wouldn't be so quick to condemn the fellow who wounded the bear. In BC, its legal to hunt black bears with a .22 centerfire. Sometimes animals are wounded and get away, and a black bear can disappear quickly in any kind of cover. There might not have been much of a blood trail initially due to the small bullet entrance, but sometimes even major caliber bullets make what appears to be a small entrance wound. We frankly don't know if the hunter who wounded the bear made an effort to follow it up, but I hope he did.

The Hunting Gods will look favourably upon you... I see a big bear in your future..

Who says chivalry is dead?
