Useless powders?

There are lots of threads about favorite powders, but I'm curious as to whether people have found powders that just do not seem to work in any application. Let us know what you tried it in and why you gave up.
 
The only useless powder I ever found was one I didn't have when I needed it! :)

(Although I did once see a guy who wanted to reload solely for .45 ACP buying Varget...)

OK #######, now drive over to my house and clean my breakfast tea out of my laptop. I read your post and spewed all over my monitor and my wife is looking at me like a freak.

I just shoot the bad one first to save the good powder to shoot later and it's going on for long time and I will stop shooting the bad one when I find a good one but untill then.......... :bangHead: - Biggs
 
No indiscriminate name calling over powder choices? Let me start the flame wars.

Win760: what's the point? There are powders that do what it does better.
Reloder 19: Seems like it's close but I've run into issues on calibers it's supposed to be good at.
Pyrodex: Tougher to clean, lower performance than triple 7

There are no bad powders, but there are several that seem redundant (if not identical):

- Herco: does anyone use it? We already have Unique
- Alliant 410: for 410's only....
- IMR4756 and IMR7625: let's at least change the names so we don't confuse them with IMR4759
- The IMR and H "almost identical twins": 4198, 4895 and 4350. H4227 was already dumped and we have survived
- IMR4320 and 4064: choose one
- H4831 and 4831SC: lose the former
- the Win and Hodgdon powders that are the same powder with a different name (e.g. Win231 and HP-38)

Yes he sure is, and I'd hate to see him go. Now that Herco dude..... :D
 
Bruce, aka H4831 is no spring chicken but he still has a spring in his step. I think, he'll be around for a while yet, just like that older H4831 powder he has squirreld away and likes so much.

They are distinctly different powders that can substitute well for each other, as their burn rates are very close.
