Have a few concerns about a new build and want to get some advice from people who use the product. I am building my SBR and have finally narrowed my upper down to a KAC. I'm going to go with an 11.5" CQB model and want to know if the product is worth the coin I'm going to drop. I don't want to hear anything about "you could buy this instead" unless you have actual experience with the product. I am the type that likes to pay for quality and reliability. I will be changing out the forend for something different as well as the muzzle break, so I really just want to know about bolt and barrel. thanks guys

I have used a KAC many times and it's top of the line. I could rhyme off all the specs that make them worth it but once you get behind it and crack a few off, you'll know what I mean.

I'm not sure I quite understand you buying a complete KAC upper then removing the bolt and barrel? If you buy a complete upper, you won't find much better out there than the KAC.

What lower will you have it on?

^^ Indeed.

Would really like to hear why this is a good direction. For me KAC is a premium product not only because of the components, but they have been engineered and tested to work together reliably as a system. The OP would be losing lots of value (and reliability) by turning a KAC upper into a Heinz 57. Can't think what benefit would be worth this trade-off.

I would have to echo those who have already posted. My 11.5" KAC would be one of the last AR's I would sell. But why not just use the factory KAC upper? They are first class!

TheGr8One, Sorry let me retype that, I am loosing the rail and whatever muzzle brake comes on it. I am going to keep upper receiver, bolt and barrel.

My brother tells me that people he talks to say they see these top end guns fail while Norincos just keep running. I own an NEA already, took it to a class and had not one issue. if it can perform then I really think it comes down to how well you take care of your firearm. This upper however will be on my new build and I already have the lower. I know it is a gimmick but its a Spikes Jack and I love the look of it. Got it from Questar last week.

I have over 20 ar15s/ar10s not inc the shop guns/test guns and the 12 S&J hardware made complete ar15s ( not in production yet) my sr15 and sr25 and the best I own, and I also have noveski, atrs and some other high end guns

Buy the whole gun, the ambi lower is a bigger deal then you think it will buy, fully ambi and not add on ambi parts, they are very low profile and work very well.
The only thing missing on a KAC is a raptor charging handle, but I hear, that may become standard some time soon.
bbb

Thank you gents. Look like the old saying of "bang for your buck" really does apply to KAC gear. I have only a few pieces of their equipment but my 3T will forever be my favorite.

Just remember that the KAC bolt has rounded lugs so is only compatible with KAC uppers. So don't swap that out with another bolt.

We have 16" SR-15's in stock right now.

11.5" and 14.5" are back on order but not sure of eta.

I don't know if I want to deal with One Shot Tactical again. One it took 8-9 months to get a triple tap from you. I emailed over a month and a half ago about a foregrip in tan and am still waiting to hear anything back about it. I was told you guys were going to get me an HSGI sniper waist belt for all The BS from my first order and that never happened! Your customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I can order from Operation Parts in the US, pay aprox $200 with an FFL dealer and get it that way.

Irunguns also had access to KAC.

One shot tactical is the way to go. They will take care of you should a problem arise. If they have it in stock it should be fool proof

OP if you find a whole KAC sr15 and just want the upper, I will buy the lower from you.
I have owned few KAC rifles and other top tier ARs, I'm no longer interested in anything else (AR wise) but KAC...

Sounds like you had a better experience then I did, after dealing with One Shot I am inclined to give another company a try. TheGr8One has hit the nail on the head. I already spoke to Irunguns, they were great!!! Answered all my questions, pointed me in the right direction on how to get the ball rolling and explained what is required of me. You saying "they will take care of you" is not how I feel, but others like yourself may disagree. I can only base it on my experience.

Sorry Familygunnutz I'm only going for an upper. I already have a stripped lower (Spikes Jack) that I got from Questar. Now there is a company I will use over and over again. One call or email to them and you will probably agree.

I now have my original question answered, are KAC worth the bucks. Looks like yes.

I have a technical question now, lets see if anyone can answer it..... KAC has introduced the Mod 2 Gas Block. As I said, I am going to remove the handguard and muzzle break to put on some Spikes and Noveske gear. A Bar or Sar rail will replace the handguard and a XK3/KX5 will replace the muzzle device. XK3/KX5 is a good choice I hear for an SBR. So here in lies my question. The new gas block has a threaded port where the gas tube mounts. Once that nut is loosened off and the gas tube removed can you remove the barrel nut without removing the gas block itself from the barrel?

I'd sell the Spikes and grab a complete KAC. As others have said, the ambi lower is the bees knees and worth the investment.

it's hard to find just the upper, if you import just a upper you might as well import a whole rifle then we can split the import cost that's what I meant, but it's okay, up to you.
also, forget about other handguards...leave the original KAC handguard on weither it's urx3.1 or 4. KAC handguards are top of the line also...no need to swap out.
I wouldn't put a KAC upper on a spike lower...that's just me...then again who am I to judge, I did put my KAC 14.5 dimpled(sold since) on my Norinco lower once... my wife threatened to never speak to me again for I have done such horrendous thing :)

I've had no problems with my 11.5 inch KAC but I agree with everyone else just get a whole one. Only thing I added was an optic, different brake, and a bad lever.
