I just became the proud owner of a old-but-new 8 lb box of H870 powder. Have found only one brief reference to it in loading 7MM Rem Mag. Can anyone offer a source for reloading info - other appropriate calibers, etc. I searched the Alliant/Hercules website but nothing there.
Thx

H870 is a Hodgdon powder so go to their website or buy their manual. H870 is very slow burning and therefore performs at its best in large cases with very heavy bullets.

Regards

Aubrey

7mm STW and heavy bullets is one I can think of (aside from 264 WM). Older powder and discontinued (was likely surplus) so you wont find lots of data in the newer books.

Some other thoughts on H870: There have been 2 or 3 guys looking for it on this site. They tell me that comparing H870 with US869 doesn't work, even though the data seems to suggest the same loads for both. I'd bet that if you can't find a use for it you could easily get rid of it and make another gunnuter very happy.:D

H870

I do believe that I have a one pound can in my powder box. Never had a need for it.

Anyway, as I am at the cottage and won't he home until next Weds. or Thurs., and if I am correct, I will probably put a WTS post on the EE reloading forum with it and whatever else that I have in surplus to my needs.

I live in Ottawa so you people outside of this immediate area are out-of-luck. Sorry.

It's also quite at home, in the 25-06, with 120+ grain bullets. May not be the fastest load, but it sure is accurate, consistent and dependable.
