Uses for the SKS bayonet

I use mine as a butter knife when camping, doubles as a spare tent peg.

Thanks for this, I am going to call it; As a general camp knife and tool. As my own contribution to this thread (Hey! it's raining out, don't wanna go shooting). I took the bayonet off my 1950 refurb and sharpened it! (the one that I take everywhere because it is ugly but accurate)
As always, I came away more impressed with SKS' than when I started: 1. Bayonet screw slot is wide, deep and tough. 2. Bayonet is hard, high carbon steel that holds a good edge. 3. the center punching-peening is needed to secure the screw because if it is screwed in too tight, it won't fold easy.
4. the knife edge makes a very good high reach machete when on the rifle. (but be careful when folding the bayonet now!)

Seems to me if you poked something/someone with the Russian SKS bayonet and bent it sideways it's likely to snap. Also seems to me the Chinese "nail" type bayo is a better design.

So... I removed the Russian bayo's. Better bayo use is to pry lead out of capitalist pigs, commies and marxists when you need to reduce the evidence trail.

Good to know it will hold an edge, I'm going to try and track down someone's take off and make a knife out of one. It's worth a shot.

Yes, I think the Chinese bayo, or better yet, the Russian 1949 bayo, would be better all around for most bayo uses. The muzzle gets a bit too close to the camp fire during cooking when using the blade bayo.
I am worried about the blade snapping when I use it as a crutch, it does flex quite a bit. I think of the whole set up as a "Swiss Army Knife" deal for rifles, now I need to find a way to add a corkscrew.

When I took my bayonet off yesterday, I was impressed with how light and easy to turn into a long knife, it would be. Except that it took a lot of grinding. I tried to file it first but the metal is too hard.

I will make a couple of them. Will be cool. No need to grind. 2 piece handle and bolt to hold it together

That rifle is bad for hand to hand combat. Just looks akward. Thank god for C7. I'd still rather use SKS than this thing.

I was wondering about that as I watched the video, the soldiers were ending up holding only the rifle butt when attacking the ground target.
Is that the kind of situation where a Mosin and a two foot long bayonet works well?
