Hey guys, I just picked a fiberglass stock for my m14. I'm doing some of the stock mods and was wondering if it is really necessary to due the retaining pin mod. If so what is the reason for this and how much due I build it up?
Please read the stickies at the top of the MBR forum. Trust me, Skullboy's suggestions on this operation are fabulous.
YOU SHOULD carry out this mod otherwise your op rod spring guide PIN will migrate loose especially when the inserted magazine is in place (spring is slackened). When this happens the op rod guide works loose and you have a royal mess on your hands.
Learn from the voice of experience, it's not worth taking this shortcut. Just make the mod. I like using Cambodian Tire (sourced) bondo, or any resin filler, like DEVCON, Marine TEX, Permatex Cold Weld, JB Weld (my favorite).
Thanks Hungry, I have read the stickies. It is just hard to tell by the picture how much it is build up and I wasn't really sure why you due this but now I know. That JB weld sure works goods.
