USGI stock fitting problems

I have over the past few months sold many refinished USGI fiberglass stocks on this site. I have one buyer who is having problems getting his chinese m14 to fit the stock. I am not sure if his rifle is from marstars new shipments or not. My question is , has anyone else had any issues when trying to fit thier norinco into a usgi stock?? The stock in question fit up with both my norinco m14's with no problem , a good tight fit, but when the purchaser got the stock i sold him it does not seem to fit his rifle. I find this strange and would like to hear some feedback from others to see if anyone else has had problems fitting thier norinco type m14 into a usgi stock. All of the stocks i have sold have been refinished to fill the selector cutout, ect and have been repainted, other than that there have been no further alterations.
interested in hearing some responses.

I recently bought 3 USGI stocks, me and a buddy filled the selector area etc and all 3 fit nicely into the Norinco M14 rifles we have, one from a shipment 2 years ago and 2 from the Marstar shipment that just arrived...

Sounds to me like the guy might have to do some fiddling, but it should just drop in...

Cheers

Miine was painted & as a result was a little tight but no big deal . What did happen tho was some hammer follow on cycling because the space between rhe receiver and the trigger group was a little too long. A bit of work with the dremel to allow the receiver to sit lower in the stock cured the problem. This is something anybody who switches stocks should watch out for as it could result in the gun firing out of battery...

I have one norc that has a 0.5mm space between the rear of the usgi stock and the entire length of the receiver area. If you hold it up to the sky/light you can see that there is no contact between the horizontal area of the receiver and the top of the stock. Fitting the trigger mech is very very tight compared to using the norc stock.

My new norc fits the USGI stocks perfectly, with no spaces or undue tightness etc.

Must just be some batches of norcs were made extra beefy or something.

Could be a receiver lug problem on the 'rinc mated to the USGI stock. I have 4 Norincos and have tried them all in about 30 USGI stocks and 2 Sages. Only had a problem with 1 USGI stock. It only took a little grinding on the stock where the lugs sit to straighten out the problem.

Also keep in mind that the USGI stocks were made for select fire rifles. There will be a little extra space between the bottom flat of the receiver and the top of the stocks receiver well. Also remember that the USGI stocks are old and in some cases have been sanded and refinished and sanded again. They are bound to lose material creating larger tolerances.

That's exactly what happened to me. I had to file the JB weld (selector cutout fill) and rear part of the stock. The receiver lugs are still not completely engaged in the stock grooves, but at least the hammer doesn't follow on when cycling.

I just re-painted my DaveGP stock a couple weeks ago. The first time, it was very tight getting it back together, but it went. This time It won't. Probably doesn't help all the paint I put on it(2xprimer,3xolivedrab which I didn't like so I painted it black again with 2xCoats, then 2x clearcoat). I'm going to re-sand it all down again and also sand a bit of the Fiberglass off around the receiver and the trigger group. Even better....anyone know a good paint remover that won't hurt the fiberglass?

Is the gap below or behind the reciever mortises?

Many of the USGI glass stocks I've seen had a gap along the reciever rails (I'm looking from the underside) around the mag well. Don't worry about that part.

The critical interface for accuracy and repeatability lies in the rear of the reciever lugs or mortices. That's where I usually do a full glass bed job or a surface job.

In the Abbotsford clinic you will see me glass bed (DEVCON) Rooster33's 2 M1A's.

That gap BELOW the reciever lugs is NORMAL. Do not sweat it .... No need to fill it in unless it is driving you crazy!

I would just leave that gap alone. Been there for almost 50 years.

Just went to install my USGI stock and it didnt seem to want to fit.

How much more force is needed to install the trigger group?

Will try to take soem pics later tommorrow.

Gents,

I have found the odd norinco trigger group that did not like the USGI stock and it caused problems. We chatted about it before here:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91174

Brobee offered some advice as well as others. I have cured it by changing trigger groups and doing the test after assembly. I one case I could not get it to work correctly with the stock until I cleaned out some of the area that had a home bedding job. Once the proper geometry was achieved, it passed the test after assembly.

As long as the rifle passes the test after assembly it should be good to go. I have had some stocks that the heel would be exposed more than others but it functioned safely. I hope this helps.

Cheers

Jeff

Thanks for the information. Removed some paint from the trigger group area and put some grr into it and fit like a charm.

Pasted the operation test and soon will get some test firing in :)
