I read the FAQ and have finished taping the cardboard to fill in the selector cutout and the "dip" on the right side. I'm a bit confused about the area where I need to "build up a JB Weld "dam" where the retaining pin for the recoil spring guide is located"

Does anyone have any more detailed instructions on what to do here, and maybe we can add it to the FAQ? Is it to fill in the dip that is just forward of the mag well, or is it to create that little vertical tab just on the right side just forward of the mag well?

One other question, I bought Krylon paint- can it be used without primer on the stock?

Thanks in advance!

Derek

If you look at that 'dip' on the right hand side, up on the side of the magwell, you will see that it looks like it was cut out about 1 5/8" ( 41mm) long on the inside. Fill all that back in and the underhang beneath it. To clarify, you are working on the sidewall of the stock. You do not need to go forward with the fill any more than what looks cut out from the sidewall.

Hope that helps.

BTW There is already primer on the stock. I like to do things only once and anything I paint (home, garage, fiberglass gun stocks...), I always use new primer. I haven't had any problems yet. I used Krylon paint on mine and primer and sealer and nothing has chipped off yet.

I used Krylon camo brown. It’s a pretty close match for the actual glass stock so it was easy to paint and won’t show wear as badly.

However, be advised that if you've got bug repellant on your face and your face contacts your stock - you face now has camo paint on it.

If I was going to do it right I'd use arma-coat.

Isn't that what the clearcoat is for, to prevent paint transfer?
