Hey guys.

Looking into buying USGI m14 stock. Came across wood one but it has a cracked in the fore end by the sling studs but the cool thing is it has dummy selector in it.
Guy is asking 250 for it. Includes all the metal and norinco handguard cap.
The rifle that sits in it doesn't sit all the way in. I can see daylight under it...
 
I have a very nice Springfield walnut version. VN era. Not a parade piece, but would clean up very nicely if that's your choice.
It fits my M1A very well.
 
maybe it's not mounted correctly in the stock or is the light coming from an unblocked selector switch hole- and does the crack go all the way through to the bed or is it just a surface crack?- personally , I wouldn't touch it as you just don't bondo or wood glue a rifle stock back together- all my m14s wear usgi firberglas or norinco fiberglas ( and there\s 7 of them)b/c of "swelling"and I believe( and others can chime in ) that a NEW BOYDS stock isn't that much- and you can migrate the metal bits from your norinco stock to your boyds with little problem- just my 2 c- the dummy selector switch can be home made or bought off the internet-last time I looked it was like 12 bucks usd--most of that was shipping- most of us end up filling the hole with fiberglas after screwing a small backing plate to the inside of the stock, then paint it the same colour as the stock
I just checked- the boyds slimline without the selector switch cutout is 104 usd according to their website- even with the low dollar and shipping etc- that STILL less than what your so-called friend wants- and theirs isn't cracked- 2 minutes with a drill or router will give you that selector hole you want or you can make one with a bolt and cap nut- trust me, the selector switch thing isn't ALL THAT
and if you do get a usgi or a boyds, be sure and do the popsicle stick trick so your pin doesn't "walk " out

I bought a Walnut Vietnam era one from Moneytalk here on the EE.

It shows some dents and abuse but no cracks and it looks good enough for me now that I refinished it. The scares add to the caracter of it IMO. The rifle fits nice and tight, had to sand a bit at the end to make the Norc buttplate fit. Don't know if it's the oil swelling the wood or if it really needed the sanding to begin with but now it fit perfect.

I think paid 60 or 80, can't remember, and I saved the shipping as he's not to far from me.

So if you don't mind a little history in the wood and can refinish it yourself that would be an option.
 
Right on. The cracks is all the way through. That's what's bothering me the most.
I saw them too from moneytalk. I don't know if he has anymore tho. Must give him a text

Thank man. I'll get a hold of mystic precision to see when's the next time he is placing an order if money talk is out.
 
i do know how to repair that crack as well , but why bother with all that work- it's similar to repairing the main spar on an avro anson and involves cutting the crack wider, putting in a piece to match, gluing the thing, and laying a fiberglas mat -

Sounds like $50 stock with a $50 fake selector switch..... IMHO.....

There are LOTS of good wood USGI stocks out there to be had for way less than that......
