Using 44-40 bullets to reload 44MAG rounds?

Hello Gents,

This maybe a really stupid question. A friend gave me some 44 soft-point 200gr jackets bullets he had hanging around because he knows I reload for 44MAG.

However, they are 44-40 (0.426" diameter) and not 44 (0.430" diameter). I was planning on making some indoor plinking rounds with these because my lead bullets smoke a bit much for the indoor range.

Am I complete idiot for even thinking about this? Should I just post them on the EE for the 44-40 shooters?

They will rattle down the bore okay, prolly with poor accuracy as they should be min. .429" for the .44 Mag......your .44 mag. dies may not size cases small enough to get any hold on the bullet and if they don't, I'd forget the idea, too much trouble.
