using a transit for a spotting scope

lol i find at work it takes so long to focus them on the rod that out in the field it could almost be impossable to find a moving animal unless your out in a huge field. I have managed to find some good viewing in a parking lot though :evil:

he he he he.... those good transit moments eh? :p:p I love being out there "trying to find my benchmark" in the summer..... lots of bonus viewing to be had. :D:D:D

at the range you are probably okay, if your really good with the stadia lines you can start ranging your targets to lol.

Transits and theodolites are definitely falling into the obsolete survey category .

For shooting purposes, I'd find their tripods too big, heavy and ackward for most situations.

But I'm still looking for a nice old one with a wooden tripod for displaying in my office.

Hmmm might be good for measuring group size at long distance too. :) Anyone that says they're obsolete doesn't build barbed wire fencing by the mile!
